Partnership Announcement!
|
|
|
AGF is excited to announce a new partnership with Special Olympics Alberta. With their mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, thereby giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community, Special Olympics Alberta is a perfect partner for gymnastics. They will host learning sessions for coaches which will focus on coaching athletes with an intellectual disability, and adapting our current programs to reach these individuals. This addition to our programming will help create spaces for athletes and inclusivity within our community. Over the next couple of months keep an eye out for these learning opportunities. We cannot wait to witness the wonderful evolution this partnership will provide for our coaches! To learn more about Special Olympics check out https://www.specialolympics.ab.ca/. Welcome to the Alberta Gymnastics family, Special Olympics!

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.
Contact us at info@abgym.ab.ca for more information.

World Age Group Championships β
Going to worlds has been our goal since we became a trio over 3 years ago and we still canβt believe it actually happened. The past couple months have been full of ups and downs and a lot of hard training, but it was all worth it for the experience of competing with the best trios from all over the world. Our only goal for worlds was to go out onto the floor and do clean routines that we are proud of and we did that. It was such an amazing experience getting to meet and trade pins with athletes from other countries, getting to watch the best of the best compete and getting to explore Portugal with our team! Worlds was an experience we will never forget, but we are excited to be home and get some time off then start working on upgrades for next season!

A Word from Finance and Membership π΅π°π² Earlier this month, I was very fortunate to be able to attend CPA Canada's The ONE National Conference here in downtown Calgary.
It was the tenth edition of the conference and the first time it was held in Alberta! The ONE brings together Chartered Professional Accountants from all across Canada to explore new trends and innovations in the industry, learn new skills, and discuss upcoming economic conditions. There were many great discussions on several topics, including: new hiring practices and supporting staff with diverse needs, the role AI can play in the workplace today and in the near future, leadership methods, and what the next few years will look like for Alberta's economy. I also networked with some vendors and other industries, always putting our gymnastics community at the forefront. I really look forward to trying to implement what I've learned into our office to further streamline our processes and better our sport. Also, a special shout out goes to Jeff Herzog (@jeffthecpa) of Ortona who emcee'd the event! He did an amazing job and also included some pretty fab outfit changes. As you can see below, he was "tickled pink" to be there, even if it meant that he had to miss his adult gymnastics classes. In addition to being on the Board of Directors at Ortona, Jeff is also an Assistant Executive Professor at the University of Alberta and an award winning instructor. It was such a treat to meet him in person. Thanks, Jeff! In other news, I just want to remind all clubs that the deadline for Session 1 membership registrations is today. The session comprised of July and August, so please make sure that all coach and athletes from that period are uploaded and payment is sent. Also remember to include all summer camps, drop-ins, and birthday party attendees. Unregistered athletes and coaches cannot compete at AGF events and are uninsured while training. If you have any questions on a member's status you can always contact my office at membership@abgym.ab.ca, and I'll be happy to help. Lastly, I wish to acknowledge that Monday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. A lot of work has been done to recognize the atrocities of the past, but there is still much more to do. Be excellent to each other, everyone. I will see you all at our Annual General Meeting in a few weeks!
