2024 AGM Weekend Highlights | October 24, 2024
Over 110 AGF members from 29 member clubs participated in the 2024 Annual General Meeting weekend.
It was great to see everyone in attendance. From assembly meetings to sessions on Sport Safety, Insurance, and Board to Board, as well as the Town Hall, the weekend provided a wealth of knowledge whether that be new information for attendees or simply a reminder of what is offered. The AGF staff and board truly appreciate this chance to reconnect and discuss our Federation and sport.
Annual General Meeting
At this year’s annual general meeting, we had 23 clubs represented. You can review the 2024 AGM Minutes to be voted on and adopted at the 2025 AGM.
AGF had three general director positions up for election this year, and three candidates put their names forward. By acclimation, Dawn Vande Vyvere, Michelle Bahr, and Jayson Johnson will hold a two-year term on the Board of Directors. Our new board met following the AGM and re-elected Dawn Vande Vyvere as Chair and Michelle Bahr as Vice-Chair. Carolyn Foster was appointed as recording secretary by the CEO.
In addition, Lindsay Kiezik was elected as the Secretary/Treasurer. This new position on our board was a necessary addition to the bylaws that were voted in at the AGM. This position is a standard that is required by the Society’s Act.
Contact information for these board members, as well as our returning board members, can be found on our website: AGF Staff & Board Contact Information.
An online, printable version of our 2023-2024 AGF Annual Review is available for all. Minutes from all meetings will be distributed next week.
A special note of thanks must also be expressed to outgoing board member, Travis Oxley, for the many volunteer hours he has given to the board over the last two years. His devotion to our Federation and sport is admirable. Thank you, Travis!
Technical Program Assembly Meetings
All technical meeting assemblies were held in person over the weekend. Each meeting showed a positive turnout from the membership and the discussions were informative and productive. We are aiming to have all handbooks completed and available on our website by the end of November. There are several portions we are waiting on from either GymCan or FIG in terms of pathways, and as soon as we have that information, we will update the website again. In the meantime, if you have a specific question, please reach out to your respective program manager. You can find all contact information on the Staff Page of our website.
Gala Dinner
As always, the highlight of the weekend was our Awards Gala. With over 485 people in attendance, the event was a great opportunity for us to celebrate some of the wonderful highlights from the past year. In addition to the athlete awards, we awarded our coaches of the year, judges of the year, and club hosting awards. A full list of all award recipients can be found on our website under our results page and within the 2023-2024 Results Tab.
Be sure to check out our YouTube page @AlbertaGymnastics to view our Athlete and Unit of the Year videos as well as a video honouring Tony Smith, the recipient of the AGF Lifetime Membership Award. His ongoing contributions to not only Alberta but the sport of gymnastics as a whole are truly incredible. Thank you, Tony, for all you have done and continue to do.
We would like to give a big congratulations to all our award recipients, and we look forward to seeing what comes next!
Again, thank you to all who were able to attend this wonderful weekend of meetings, the AGM, and the Awards Gala. We look forward to seeing and working with all member clubs over the coming year.
