Exelta hosted our first event of 2024 TG NewsMany of our TG athletes braved the cold, along with their coaches and families, in Red Deer this past weekend. Exelta Gymnastics hosted their Invitational meet for Provincial Levels, which was our first TG event of the season. Despite the cold, the event ran super smoothly. Thanks to all of the staff and hosts for their hard work! Next up is the first official TG competition, Cup #1 hosted by Altadore Gymnastics January 27th & 28th in Calgary. It looks like the forecast will be much more pleasant for those who will be coming from out of town. See you then!

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people. Completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.
Contact us at info@abgym.ab.ca for more information.

A Word from Finance and Membership π΅π°π² Welcome to 2024!
Over the winter break I was happy to see that the Government of Alberta remitted payment of our annual operating grant. While the vast majority of AGFs funding comes from our membership, (to whom we are extremely grateful) through registrations, insurance, and NCCP course delivery, we also receive some funding from the Province through its Sport, Physical Activity, and Recreation (SPAR) program. Through the Association Development Grant Program, SPAR supports not-for-profits in Alberta and funds "safe and welcoming programs and multi-sport games where Albertans can play, learn, compete, and even represent the province on the world stage". We have been receiving this annual grant for over 25 years. We are very appreciative of it as it allows for stability in the budgeting process and acknowledges the benefits our sport has to the well-being of Albertans! The Government of Alberta has been a long time supporter. In addition to the annual grant, recently the Ministry of Tourism and Sport has provided additional funding for: I must also mention their Emergency Support Fund during the pandemic which went directly towards relief for our clubs and athletes! Each year, in acceptance of these grants, AGF provides detailed reporting about our sport, activities, usage and membership. We also get the chance to boast about the reach of our gymnastics programming and the growth of participation across the province. πππ Gymnastics in Alberta, both recreational and competitive, is growing and we are so thankful to SPAR for recognizing that. We look forward to continually working with them in the future! Stay warm everyone, and we'll see you next month.

π₯ Getting to Know Your AGF Team! π
Last weekend, the weather in Alberta was the coldest it's been since the 1960s!!! How did you spend the Polar Vortex!?!? π₯ΆβοΈβοΈπ§£ππ₯
|
|
Bobby - We spent the cold snap inside watching Encanto & Grey's Anatomy and baking treats! πΊπͺπ§ Haleigh - We went to Costco for the first time ever! The handle on the shopping cart was iced over and so cold on our hands until we were about halfway done with our trip! π₯Ά π Mo - I spent the cold snap cuddled up at home reading and writing with a cup of tea in hand. The winter cozy vibe always puts me into hibernation mode. πβ
Robin - Over the weekend I got some odd jobs around the house done and binged the final season of Succession... sad its over! π¨πΊ
Craig - I was at Winsport all weekend watching the Canadian Figure Skating Nationals! βΈοΈπ OMG they put on such a great event. Worlds is in MontrΓ©al this year and I wish I had the money to go LOL!
Carolyn - I spent the polar vortex cuddled up in blankets with the heater on high! πβ
Keevin - I went to Activate Games and did some rock climbing at Bolder here in Calgary (a place I mentioned last month). I also went for lunch at UNA. They make this fried garlic bread that is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten! ππͺ
Jacqueline - What did I do during the deep freeze? I cleaned a lot! π§Ήπ§½ Roland the Monkey - I made a snow monkey! βοΈβοΈ
