Babysitting Basics | June 24

Taught by St. John Ambulance Instructor

Youth ages 11 and up who are interested in Babysitting infants and young children can take the St. John Ambulance, Babysitting Basics course to learn basic skills for managing emergencies and caring for infants and young children.

Course length is 1 full day (9 am - 4 pm)

Participants will need to bring a packed lunch and a pen or pencil.

Course requires a minimum of 7 students registered to run.  Maximum 12 students per class.

This course is instructed by St. John Ambulance.  Certificates are provided by St. John Ambulance and mailed by Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities once we receive them.  A temporary certificate is issued at the end of class by the instructor.  

Courses with less than 7 students registered 8 days before class starts may be cancelled due to minimum student numbers needed.  If your course is cancelled you will be provided the opportunity to transfer to the next available course date.

(Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities and St. John Ambulance is requesting your permission to use your child’s personal information (i.e. videos and photographs) in public venues, on the internet, or in publications where the general public may have access. 

By selecting YES, you are agreeing that your photos, audio recordings, or videos of your child may be used in reports to funders, on social media (Facebook, Instagram etc.), on our websites, external publications (newsletters, brochures, etc.)) and other uses related to marketing and/or communicating about programs, services and mission.  I agree that no compensation of any kind, now or in the future, will be provided for use of any media containing the likeness of the consented individual.

Release of Liability Waiver

I,, the undersigned, as the parent or legal guardian of the children listed, do hereby give my full consent and approval for the children listed as above, “the Participant(s)” to participate in activities at Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities facilities located at 10318 92 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta, operated by Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities Committee and St. John Ambulance, and agree as follows:

I warrant and represent that I am the parent, legal guardian of the Participant(s) or have been duly authorized by the parent or legal guardian to represent the Participant(s) named above.

By entering the property and facilities of Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities, I acknowledge the inherent risks present in participation in indoor activities and in an outdoor play environment. While Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities Committee (GPASC) and its staff work diligently to provide a safe environment for all, certain risks, whether inherent in the facility itself or caused by myself, any of the Participant(s), other participants, or partners of Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities, are unavoidable. These risks include, but are not limited to, damage to personal property, personal injury or death. I voluntarily assume and accept all risks to myself, the Participant(s), and my personal property.

I hereby, for myself and on behalf of the Participant(s), agree to save and hold harmless and fully indemnify Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities Committee Management, Staff, and Volunteers, and St. John Ambulance Management, Staff and Volunteers on the account that all normal safety procedures have been taken on behalf of Management and Staff, from any and all liability for any personal injury or injury to any third-party child resulting from the Participant(s) actions/participation in the Home Alone Safety program activities and above-mentioned activities.

I hereby release Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities Committee, And St. John Ambulance and its entire staff from any and all liability, on the account that all normal safety procedures have been taken on behalf of Management and Staff, for any injuries that the Participant(s) may sustain as a result of any activities taken place at Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities.

Cancellation, Transfer and No-Show Policy Babysitting Basics Class

As a non-profit organization, Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities (GPASC) applies administrative fees for cancellations and program transfers to ensure the efficient allocation of resources.  We book instructors from St. John Ambulance to teach this class.

Transfer Policy

We are pleased to assist with requests to transfer to a future class date. To initiate a transfer, kindly reach out to us. 
For a successful transfer, we kindly request a minimum of 48 hours before the scheduled class. Transfers are not guaranteed if less than 48 hours notice is provided.
Every registrant providing more than 48 hours notice is entitled to one complimentary class transfer.  Any subsequent transfers for the same participant will incur a $25 administrative fee per incident.  No-shows are not eligible for class transfers.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your class registration, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Account credits are available for participant cancellations received with more than 48 hours notice. Refunds will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.

No refunds or account credits will be issued for participant cancellations made less than 48 hours before the class unless we are notified of extenuating circumstances (such as illness, injury, or a family emergency).  Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.

If Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities cancels a class due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances, clients will be offered the choice of transferring to the next available date for the class,  or an account credit.  Refunds may be offered if it is not possible to reschedule and are at the discretion of Grande Prairie and Area Safe Communities.  Please note that Babysitting Basics classes must have a minimum of 7 students enrolled to run.

No-Show Policy

No refunds or account credits will be provided for no-shows to the class.

A registrant will be classified as a no-show if they fail to attend the class without providing at least 24 hours advance notice before the class start time.
