We’re excited to offer open training time to you! This opportunity is available to all current payroll employees as a way to continue developing skills, exploring new techniques, and connecting with our circus community.
To help keep our training environment positive and respectful for everyone, please review the following guidelines:
When You Can Train
- Staff are welcome to train anytime the school is open (9 AM–9 PM), except during:
- Special events
- Birthday parties
- Big Top Toddlers (BTT) sessions
- If the school is closed but the River Market is open, staff are permitted to train between 9 AM and 9 PM. Another staff member must be present for safety purposes.
- Please check the school schedule on Activity Messenger to plan your training time. If you do not have access to Activity Messenger, please let us know, and we will set up an account for you.
- Please use your best judgment when choosing training times. If most training points or equipment are in use by classes, it may not be the best time for staff training.
- There are 12 aerial points available. If two aerial classes are running, please leave the remaining points for class use. When any aerial class is in session, the center point should not be used for training.
- Our large space at the back of the school is perfect for juggling, floor-based training/stretching, or activities needing extra room.
- Qualifying instructors, who are currently working RLS classes this term or birthday staff who work two or more days per month, are welcome to drop in during Circa (5:30 PM–8:30 PM). From 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, please join Circa’s warm-up and team-building session. This helps build community and collaboration between Circa members and instructors. The remaining time is available for act and training development, similar to other open training periods.
- Please do not use the trampoline or tumbling space during scheduled classes. (This does not include the beautiful space at the back of the school, which remains available for open training.)
Respecting the Space
- Always bring a positive presence to the school.
- Be courteous to students, families, and fellow staff.
- Avoid distracting or interrupting ongoing classes, and be aware of where you’re setting up; some areas are more suitable for open training than others.
- Stay mindful of safety for yourself, other staff, and students nearby.
- Treat all school equipment with care. If you notice any damage or concerns, please report it to management.
- You’re welcome to use your own equipment, but space is limited, so please be thoughtful about what you bring.
- Clean up your area when you’re done. Put away the equipment and leave the space ready for others.
- Remember that you’re representing the school even when training independently.
At VCS, we value community and growth. We’re pleased to provide this space for staff to continue developing their craft. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome. Please share them with management so we can continue improving together.
