Mountain Bike Adventure Camp is designed to nurture a child’s connection to nature, movement, and self-discovery through the joy of cycling. Inspired by Waldorf education principles, the camp fosters experiential learning, allowing children to develop confidence, coordination, and resilience through hands-on exploration. Just as Waldorf schools emphasize learning through rhythm and engagement with the natural world, our program encourages kids to tune into their bodies, build skills at their own pace, and cultivate a sense of wonder as they ride through forests, fields, and winding trails.
Skill Level Required:
- Intermediate bike riders
- Campers should be comfortable riding on:
- Gravel pathways (e.g., Royal Recreation Trail in Riverside Park)
- Beginner singletrack trails (Middle Ground, Grand Truck, Devil’s Backbone)
- Terrain with small roots and rocks
- Campers should be interested in learning intermediate singletrack trails (Mad Hatter, South Park, Snail Trail) and some technical sections such as bumps or berms
- Campers are expected to be able to ride for 2 or more hours at a fun and leisurely pace throughout the day
Methods of Travel:
- All off-site travel will be by foot or bike
- Parents are expected to drop off and pick up their children at Trillium Waldorf School for 4 days and at Eastview Park for 1 day.
Biking requirements include:
- Lightweight bike (under 30 lbs)
- Hand brakes required (no coaster/backpedal brakes)
- Front suspension preferred
- Appropriately sized bike (16”–24” tire size)
- 6–10 speeds highly recommended
- Helmets mandatory
