Dear Parents,
As part of the AMS Extended Physical Education Program for Grade 5-8 students they will be going to Evolution Gymnastics.
We know the relationship between movement and the brain. In her book The Secret of Childhood, Maria Montessori wrote: “Movement, or physical activity, is thus an essential factor in intellectual growth, which depends upon the impressions received from outside. Through movement we meet external reality, and it is through these contacts that we eventually acquire even abstract ideas.”
On May 11 and 13, the students will be going to Evolution Gymnastics to participate in a 1-hour coach-led gymnastics lesson. Students will be introduced to all gymnastics events, safety rules, play gymnastics-related games, and be taught basic gymnastics positions and skills by our NCCP Certified Coaches. We will focus on 2-3 different themes per visit such as landings, static skills, conditioning, balance, locomotion, etc. To engage the students, we provide progressive challenges during each visit to keep students interested, challenged, and having fun! Each child should have bare feet, no loose clothing or jewelry and hair tied up.
As the gymnastics studio is just down the street, students will be walking accompanied by Mr. Haddad.
The cost for the program will be covered by the AMS Activity Fee so there will be no charge.
