Qualifications for serving at Rivers Edge Camp

The following is a list of qualifications that we are looking for in our summer staff:

  • You have made a personal profession of salvation to Jesus Christ and claim Him as Lord and Saviour
  • You regularly attend an evangelical church
  • You have knowledge of the Bible
  • You are convicted of and committed to Biblical teaching and standards of morality
  • You are able to be a role model – striving to be a person of integrity
  • You have a love for God and a desire for spiritual growth
  • Your life shows evidence of having a teachable heart
  • You desire to practice servant leadership and be a team player
  • Your life demonstrates a respect for God’s authority and those God has placed in authority
  • You have healthy / Godly relationships in your life
  • You have good interpersonal skills and problem solving abilities
  • You have a love for campers and a willingness to pour your heart into their lives
  • You have a burden and ability to share the Gospel with campers
  • You are dependable – able to take initiative and fulfill responsibilities with a cheerful spirit
  • You have enthusiasm – showing genuine interest in campers and all aspects of their lives

Rivers Edge Camp and Retreat Centre is a Christian organisation, and therefore adheres to Christian values and ideals. We have an expectation that our staff and volunteers are willing to conform to the explained guidelines below.

  • While employed by or volunteering with Rivers Edge Camp, I will commit myself to respect all people regardless of race, gender, status or stage of life. This means I will not harm another person physically, emotionally or verbally. I will put the interests of others ahead of my own interests by showing compassion. I will demonstrate humility and patience.
  • While employed by or volunteering with Rivers Edge Camp, I will commit myself to refrain from practices which are biblically prohibited. Such practices include criminal violence, drunkenness, profane language, abortion, involvement in the occult, premarital sex (including heterosexual and homosexual behaviour), indulging in pornography and other online behaviour that is not appropriate, adultery, and dishonest practices such as cheating or stealing.
  • I commit myself to maintain the highest ethical standards and honesty in all ministry, business and personal dealings. I will avoid any real or apparent conflict of interest.
  • I will maintain discreet, inoffensive behaviour in relationship to others, regardless of gender, and will abstain from the use of illegal drugs, canabis, or the habitual use of tobacco and alcohol.
  • In summary, I also agree to follow these three principles:
    • Respect Authority (I’ll listen when you talk, you’ll listen when I talk)
    • Respect Others (My body is my body, your body is your body, and I will leave your body alone.)
    • Respect Other’s Property (My stuff is my stuff, your stuff is your stuff, and I will leave your stuff alone.)

Upon submission of your staff application, you will be notified as to what is needed to complete the application process. It could be one or all of the following:

1) Police Check – All staff over the age of 18, regardless of position, are now required to have a vulnerable sector and criminal police check within the past five years on file, when accompanied annually by a reference letter from your church leadership. You will be notified of what is needed and be provided with the necessary information to complete the police / background check.

2) Spiritual Reference Check from a Church Leader – A spiritual reference must be provided by your elder, pastor or youth leader. They will need to complete the document from the website and provide it directly to camp. YOU are responsible for providing the document to the church leader either physically or electronically.

3) Personal Reference Letters – If this is your very first time serving at camp, you will be required to submit 2 letters of references. They will need to complete the document from the website and provide it directly to camp. YOU are responsible for providing the document to them either physically or electronically. At least one of the two must know you in a context outside of your local church. The reference cannot be from an immediate family member.

Every applicant must fill out a spiritual reference form. The reference must be age 18 or older and may not be a family member: immediate or extended.

If you HAVE served at Rivers Edge Camp before you do NOT have to submit any personal references. If you HAVE NOT served at Rivers Edge Camp before, you MUST submit TWO personal references. References must be age 18 or older and may not be a family member: immediate or extended.
