The City of Elliot Lake is now accepting applications for Summer Student Employment positions. The deadline for submitting applications is March 31, 2026.
To qualify for summer employment, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary or secondary institution during this academic year and intend to return to school full-time at the conclusion of their employment term. Supporting documentation must accompany your application.
For roles that involve working primarily with children, successful candidates are required to provide a favorable criminal records check, as well as First Aid and CPR certification, which must be obtained at their own expense prior to starting employment. For positions that involve driving city vehicles, candidates must provide a driver’s abstract demonstrating a clean driving record, also at their own expense, before commencing work. Please note that except in the Aquatics area, summer student employment is limited to four (4) years (work terms).
Applicants may indicate their preferred positions; however, if the City does not receive enough post-secondary applicants available to begin work on or around May 1st, all available applicants will be assigned to laborer positions. Opportunities to transition into preferred roles will arise in July when high school students become available to fill gaps in labor. This approach ensures university applicants receive maximum hours while providing essential support to our Parks and Public Works departments during the busy start of the season. Normal working hours will be Monday through Friday; however, weekend availability may be required in certain cases. Adequate notice will be provided ahead of any required weekend shifts.
