WSSRA Code of Conduct
WSSRA participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. WSSRA staff will assist participants in being successful with their behaviors by using a behavior management program within their camp on a daily basis.
Participants will:
1. Listen to and follow directions. Ask permission to leave program or activity first before leaving.
2. Show respect to all participants and staff.
3. Refrain from using loud voices and foul language.
4. Refrain from causing bodily harm to self and others.
5. Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities.
If a participant exhibits inappropriate actions, the following guidelines will be followed:
Step 1: A warning is given.
Step 2: Time-out from the activity. This involves sitting the camper out of the current activity for 2-5 minutes. Following the time-out, the leader will review camp expectations with the camper before returning to the group.
Step 3: If the behavior continues the WSSRA supervisor will then step in and talk with the camper.
Step 4: Parents will be contacted to discuss the behavior and find a solution with the parent support. Parents may be asked to pick up their child early from camp if behavior continues.
Step 5: Participants will be suspended from camp if the behavior continues.
WSSRA reserves the right to amend or skip any of the above-mentioned steps if a camper presents a dangerous situation to themself or other people.
Handle with Care
All WSSRA staff have been trained on Handle with Care, a behavior management system. Handle with Care training focuses on de-escalating tension in individuals that includes verbal strategies while keeping both staff and participants safe. Staff will use prompt, skillful, and appropriate intervention when physical restraint is necessary, in order to minimize injuries to participants and staff.
