Athlete Eligibility Exemptions

This form is for clubs to request an exemption for an athlete who does not meet GymBC's athlete eligibility requirements

GymBC's current Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations policy can be found on our website.

The current Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations policy was activated in November 2024.

Exemption requests for 2024-25 competitions, should be submitted as soon as possible and not less than four (4) weeks prior to the competition start date.

Authority to grant exemptions:
Authority to grant exemptions to the Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations policy is granted to the Gymnastics BC Athlete Eligibility Committee which consists of no less than three (3) members with the following representation:

one GymBC Board Director
one GymBC Technical Committee Chair
the GymBC CEO or designate

Please refer to section 4.4 of the Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations policy for additional details regarding the Gymnastics BC Athlete Eligibility Committee and how previous decisions will inform future exemption requests.

Timeline:
The Athlete Eligibility Committee endeavours to provide a decision within 14-days of receipt of exemption requests.

Penalty:
As per the Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations policy, for any breach of the policy, the Gymnastics BC Member Club which the athlete is registered will be fined $2,500 per occurrence per registration season in which the policy breach occurs.

The offending athlete will be prohibited from participating in any Gymnastics BC sanctioned event or competition and will not be eligible for participation in Team BC events, competitions or funding opportunities for the duration of the competition season.

If an exemption is requested due to the athlete's primary residence being outside of BC, but they are a member of a BC club and participate exclusively in the BC sport system, then upon approval of the exemption, the athlete will not need to seek approval for the same exemption in subsequent years provided their residency and participation status remain unchanged.
