Participant Eligibility Exemptions

This form is for clubs to request an exemption for a participant who does not meet GymBC's participant eligibility requirements

GymBC's current Participant Eligibility and Training Locations policy can be found on our website.

The policy was previously the "Athlete Eligibility and Training Locations" policy.

Exemption requests required for competition, should be submitted as soon as possible and not less than four (4) weeks prior to the competition start date.

Authority to Grant Exemptions:
Authority to grant exemptions to the Participant Eligibility and Training Locations policy is granted to the Gymnastics BC Eligibility Committee which consists of no less than three (3) members with the following representation:

one GymBC Board Director
one GymBC Technical Committee Chair
the GymBC CEO or designate

Please refer to section 4.4 of the Participant Eligibility and Training Locations policy for additional details regarding the Gymnastics BC Participant Eligibility Committee and how previous decisions will inform future exemption requests.

Timeline:
The Eligibility Committee endeavours to provide a decision within 14-days of receipt of exemption requests.

Penalty:
As per the Participant Eligibility and Training Locations policy, for any breach of the policy, the Gymnastics BC Member Club which the participant is registered will be fined $2,500 per occurrence per registration season in which the policy breach occurs.

The offending participant will be prohibited from participating in any Gymnastics BC sanctioned event or competition and will not be eligible for participation in Team BC events, competitions or funding opportunities for the duration of the competition season.

Please note: requesting an exemption does not guarantee that one will be granted.

If an exemption is requested due to the participant's primary residence being outside of BC, but they are a member of a BC club and participate exclusively in the BC sport system, then upon approval of the exemption, the participant will not need to seek approval for the same exemption in subsequent years provided their residency and participation status remain unchanged.
