SportNL and Recreation NL (RNL) are please to partner in hosting a series of community engagement opportunities in Happy Valley- Goose Bay, Labrador from June 7-9, 2026. These sessions will bring together local stakeholders, athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and recreation practitioners to connect, share insights, and collaborate on strengthening sport and recreation across Newfoundland and Labrador.

  • Coaching pathways and mentorship opportunities including the coaching pathways to an NL and Canada Games 
  • Opportunity to discuss key sector challenges including limited resources, volunteer capacity, aging infrastructure and other barriers
  • Special Olympics programming, athlete pathways, and opportunities to get involved in inclusive sport

Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are the basic movements that form the foundation of all sports and physical activities. They are essential for children's success in future physical activities, helping build physical literacy and promoting lifelong participation in sport.

Through this interactive module, participants gain the ability to:

  • Understand how FMS can contribute to participation in quality physical activities and sport  
  • Identify and support the development of FMS for participants of diverse abilities, backgrounds and experiences
  • Create inclusive and accessible activities that will promote the development of FMS

This workshop is designed for coaches, recreation leaders, teachers, and anyone working to support others in developing physical literacy.

Please note this is an in person event at the Centre Labrador YMCA.
