About Our Programs and Who Should Apply

Our goals - To introduce and foster a love for the Performing and Visual Arts with students.

Our programs - Our free programs at Hope Center for the Arts are designed for the student who want to explore, experiment, and learn and become proficient in the Performing and/or Visual Arts. These include:

Most musical instruments, Dance of all kinds, Acting, Band and Orchestra, Graphic arts, Painting and Drawing, Theatre tech, Beats, Photography, Videography, Creative Writing, Poetry, Reading improvement and Book club, Math improvement and Math club, and many more.

Open to all City students - All our programs are free to City of Springfield residents, no matter what school they attend. Youth must be in middle or high school, but exceptions are possible for younger, committed students. Many pre-teens have been our stars!

Ability to explore - We understand that students are inquisitive and therefore we allow them to try all areas until they find what interests them most. After-school programs have 2 options per day.

Reading and Math - We also offer free classes in Reading and Math for all levels....remedial to advanced. Our Remedial Literacy programs show significant improvement in months and have become highly sought after.

What we are NOT - We are not an after-school play activity or summer "camp" for the student who solely wants to play and hang out with friends.

Home Schooled - We have found great acceptance and success with home-schooled students. Our programs are free as long as they live in the City of Springfield.

Other Commitments - We understand that students have other commitments after-school and summers so daily attendance is NOT required. Simply come when you can. Our doors are always open.

Differing personality traits - We encourage students with differing personality traits where we have found that the Arts, friendship, and passionate teachers has resulted in significant improvements. We work closely with support agencies of all kinds.

When - Our After-school programs begin on Monday, Sep 14. Doors open at 2:30. Classes begin at 3:30 and run until 5:30. We provide free snacks.

Transportation - Our busses pickup at most public schools daily and transport students to us after school. We do not provide transportation home.

Media Release and Photo/Video Consent

As part of the HOPE Center for the Arts and Hope for Youth & Families ("HOPE") program, students will participate in photography, videography, and media production activities that are integral to their arts education curriculum. By enrolling in this program, parents/guardians grant permission for their student to be photographed and recorded during regular program activities, including but not limited to classes, rehearsals, performances, Community Spotlight presentations, and collaborative projects. These images and videos may be used by HOPE for educational purposes, program documentation, promotional materials, social media, website content, grant applications, and community outreach to showcase student achievements and program impact. Students will also create their own photo and video content as part of their coursework in visual arts and media production. We are committed to representing students respectfully and in contexts that celebrate their creativity and growth.

Student Health Form

HOPE will not handle, store, or provide medication of any kind to the students in our care. With several hundred registrants and no clear daily attendance pattern it is not possible for us to catalog, store, and maintain medication for all those who need it. Students who take medication on site must be capable of storing it and taking it on their own without the assistance of a staff member. Students with inhalers and epi-pens are encouraged to keep them with their personal belongings in case they are needed.

I authorize the HOPE staff to furnish and/or obtain emergency medical treatment, which may be necessary for my child during the program. In the event of an emergency at which time I cannot be reached, I give consent to transport my child by ambulance to a medical facility for treatment, and I will take full responsibility for this action and agree to pay any expenses incurred for this transaction and treatment. I hereby give my consent to any emergency facility and physician to administer medical treatment to my child according to the physician or facility's discretion. I understand the medication policy outlined above and take full responsibility for ensuring that my child arrives each day with any proper medication necessary and in the proper storage containers. I further understand that if my child arrives to the program without necessary medications such as an asthma inhaler, my child will not be able to participate in any physical activity during the program.

Release of Liability

I understand the nature of the program and that participation is voluntary. I understand that the provider of the program that I have chosen in this registration process, will not be held responsible for loss, damage, illness, or injury to person or property as a result of participation in the program. I hereby release and discharge HOPE and their officers employees, agents, and volunteers from any and all claims for injury, illness, death, loss or damage as a result of participation in the program.

Handbook

Download the Handbook.

I understand the program conduct policy as outlined in the Handbook and that my child is expected to follow the behavior guidelines as outlined. I further understand that suspension or termination can occur if the conduct policy is violated. I have reviewed and agree to all policies outlined in this registration and in the Handbook.

Please read and scroll to the bottom to accept.
