Nominations may be submitted by Provincial Sport Organizations only. If you wish to recommend a nominee for your sport, please contact your Provincial Sport Organization to discuss the nomination. Nominations that are not submitted by a designated organization will be deemed invalid.

Awards are considered based on an outstanding single event performance or a series of performances occurring within the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025).

The Male Coach of the Year award is presented annually to an individual who has made a difference to a Provincial Sport Organizations programs. The Male Coach of the Year is someone who has contributed personally to their sport and athlete(s) success. The candidate must have proven leadership skills and have contributed significantly throughout the season.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).



The Female Coach of the Year award is presented annually to an individual who has made a difference to a Provincial Sport Organizations program. The Female Coach of the Year is someone who has contributed personally to their sport and athlete(s) success. The candidate must have proven leadership skills and have contributed significantly throughout the season.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).



The Rising Star Coach of the Year award recognizes a young coach who has shown exceptional promise and impact in the sport community. The recipient must have made a meaningful contribution to their sport and athletes' success, demonstrating strong leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

Eligibility:
Must be 23 years of age and under by December 31, 2025 to be eligible.



The Senior Official of the Year Award is presented annually to recognize officiating excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador.  It recognizes a dedicated and hardworking official who has been responsible for officiating sport events at any level of athletic competition. This award will recognize an individual's dedication to leadership, contributions to local sport development and promotion of fair play and ethical behaviour in sport.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18 years of age and over by December 31, 2025 to be eligible.
  • Be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Has officiated in Newfoundland and Labrador for a minimum of five (5) years;
  • Is currently officiating within the Sport NL membership;
  • Be an active member, in good standing, of a Sport NL member organization (i.e. Hockey NL);
  • Has a minimum Level 1 officiating certification (fully certified) or equivalent; and
  • Both paid and unpaid officials are eligible.


The Junior Official of the Year Award is annually to recognize a young official who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and skill in officiating sports events. This award honours an official who has shown leadership, responsibility, and professionalism in their officiating role at any level of competition. The recipient is recognized for their contributions to sport, their ability to promote fair play and ethical behaviour, and their dedication to continuous improvement in the officiating field.  

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18 years of age and under by December 31, 2025 to be eligible.
  • Be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Has officiated in Newfoundland and Labrador for a minimum of one (1) year;
  • Is currently officiating within the Sport NL membership;
  • Be an active member, in good standing, of a Sport NL member organization (i.e. Hockey NL);
  • Both paid and unpaid officials are eligible.


The Executive of the Year Award is presented annually to recognize Sport Executive excellence in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It recognizes a dedicated and hardworking individual who represents the spirit of volunteerism, and whose dedication, energy and commitment contribute at the executive level to the development of their sport or organization.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

Eligibility:

  • Must be a resident of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Has served in a Sport Executive capacity and has displayed a high level of respect for his/her respective sport within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Has been involved in the development and implementation of programs and policies for his/her respective sport.
  • Must be a member, in good standing, of a SportNL Member organization (i.e. Sailing NL)


The Volunteer of the Year award is presented annually to someone who has made a significant contribution to sport on a volunteer level. Volunteers are the lifeblood of sport!  They are the people who make it possible for children and adults from all walks of life to be able to participate in sport throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

GUIDELINES / CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION:

1. Nominations can be submitted by recognized Active or Associate members of SportNL, the SportNL Board of Directors, and the Annual Awards Selection Committee.

2. Recognized Active or Associate Members of SportNL are limited to ONE nomination per Award category. The SportNL Awards Committee and Board of Directors reserve the right to submit nominations in any category of nomination.

3. Nominations must be for amateur athletes, teams, coaches, officials, executive members or volunteers who participate in a sport that is a recognized Active or Associate member of SportNL.

4. An athlete, team, coach, official, executive member or volunteer must be a primary Newfoundland and Labrador resident. An athlete’s primary residence must be in Newfoundland and Labrador, or the majority of the team’s athletes must reside in Newfoundland and Labrador. Athletes, or teams with athletes, who live temporarily in other locations for education or training purposes and are products of the Newfoundland and Labrador sport development system are eligible for nomination. A significant portion (at least 5 years) of the nominee’s sport development shall have occurred in Newfoundland and Labrador.  The SportNL Annual Awards Selection Committee may consider exceptions.

5. Professional athletes, teams, coaches or officials are not eligible for nomination.

6. Awards are considered for an outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of nomination (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025).

7. The SportNL Annual Awards Selection Committee can consider the nominee’s long term commitment and dedication to the sport.

8. The SportNL Annual Awards Selection Committee will make their final decision based solely on the information provided in the nomination. Nominators should ensure that the nomination is accurate and as complete as possible.

9. The final decision regarding nominations and eligibility will rest with SportNL.

10. Friday, January 30, 2026 is the deadline date for the final completed Nomination Form to be received by SportNL

11. INCOMPLETE NOMINATION FORMS WILL BE REJECTED. ALL DECISIONS WILL BE FINAL.

12. SportNL is looking forward to celebrating all of the nominees and winners and will make an announcement at a later date regarding the Annual Awards event.
