The MAG Westerns training camp took place on April 7th at the Calgary Gymnastics Centre. Click on the photo for more info. MAG NewsWow! What a month April has been! We started off with our MAG Provincial championships where all of our athletes, coaches, and judges came together to celebrate. Highlights of Provincials include: - Hosting 206 MAG athletes and 35 Coaches from across the province
- Watching the sportsmanship and camaraderie between all of the athletes
- Naming Team Alberta athletes who will be travelling to Canadian Championships in June
Once provincials came to a close, we hosted a Westerns training camp at CGC for all the MAG athletes competing at the Western Canadian Championships from April 17th-21st. The camp allowed the teams to connect with their coaches and prepare for the competition. 40 athletes and 8 team coaches attended Westerns this past week in Langley, BC with our MAG Manager, Mo Oliver! We hope you had a great time!

It was an incredible event! Thank you and merçi beaucoup to everyone that joined us and cheered along! You all made it very memorable. We also had a great time hosting all athletes and spectators for Provincials, which went late into Sunday night. A big high-five to those that stayed until the end for the award presentations! They got to see Keevin (TG Manager) and Roland try to entertain the crowd as the final scores were being entered. Team Alberta also named the athletes that will be representing our province at both the 2024 Western Canada Cup in Regina, Saskatchewan and the 2024 Canadian Championships in Gatineau, Québec. Combined, there are over 100 athletes that will represent Alberta this Spring! After a successful April, there is only more excitement to come!

Mount Royal University Career Fair & Student Conference
|
|
This month, AGF joined Mount Royal University as the faculty of Health and Physical Education (HPED) was hosting their year-end career fair and student conference. We spoke with students about gymnastics and provided information on how to coach, judge, or participate within our sport. The programs within the HPED department seamlessly transition students into the world of gymnastics, with majors in Physical Literacy and Sport Management. In addition to connecting with students, we were sure to visit the other vendor's booths and create community connections, including Calgary Adapted Hub, YMCA, and Dare to Care.

Mo Oliver (MAG Manager) & Haleigh McCourt (Communications Manager) Overall, the experience was awesome! We shared a ton of information and gained interest from students who are looking for work and practicum! We look forward to future opportunities where we can have a space to talk about careers in the world of gymnastics.

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.

A Word from Finance and Membership 💵💰💲 I hope everyone had a great time at Provincials and TG Elite Canada a couple of weeks ago! 😃
It was so great to watch all of the athletes competing and celebrating together, especially those that travelled great distances. I had an incredible time meeting gymnastics fans, young and old, and had the chance to see some great routines. Moreover, I cannot thank the volunteers, catering crew, and Oval staff enough! We’re well into April, and Finance-wise that means a couple of things. First of all, Chrystia Freeland and the Government of Canada just released their Budget 2024 documents. I’m always glad when governments recognize the value of sport, and I was happy to see some additional short-term investments. You can find out more here. The federal government is providing funding to support community programs and reduce barriers to participation in sport. It also includes monies for the Athlete Assistance Program which supports National athletes and cash for the Sport Support Program which is designed to create a welcoming sport environment. Furthermore, Nate Horner and the Government of Alberta presented their budget in February (more can be found here). Our province committed funding to establish a Community Recreation Infrastructure Program to develop small/mid-size sports facilities. This may be of interest to some of our member clubs. They also allocated cash for major national sports events, so we will definitely be looking for assistance with Canadian Championships next year! Sport has power, and it is great to see it recognized as such by all levels of government. Finally, just a reminder that April is also tax-filing month! 💰🧮💻💵 The income tax filing deadline for individuals is April 30th, so make sure to complete your returns by then to avoid penalty. For those of you that are self-employed, the deadline is June 15th. And lastly, for clubs and individuals that may be incorporated, your deadline is six months after your fiscal year-end. Just like during gymnastics competitions, tax time can be quite stressful. Remember to take a break when necessary and stretch (your mind) beforehand! Have a great time, everyone! I hope those of you coming to Gymfest have a wonderful time at MRU 😊

👥 Getting to Know Your AGF Team! 🙌 How was your experience at the 2024 Artistic & Trampoline Provincial Championships?🥇💪🏆🤔
|
|
Jacinda - This was my first event seeing our athletes in action and it did not disappoint!! I really enjoyed watching all the different apparatus; it’s amazing what they can accomplish. It was great helping Haleigh upload videos of our athletes in real time. I also quite enjoyed Roland’s adventures; he was the life of the party! Thank you to all our volunteers!! Couldn’t have done it without you. Bobby - It was great to see our community pull together to make the event such a success! From our coaches and athletes performing on the competition floor, to our judges and officials who oversaw the entire event, and our volunteers and staff that put in the time to make sure things ran smoothly; we were very fortunate to have so many amazing people all in one place! Haleigh - Provincials was an amazing event and unlike anything I've ever seen before! I truly appreciated all the hard work everyone put into it to make it a success. I particularly enjoyed the antics of Roland! 🙊🤣 Mo - I had a great time at Provincials! It was awesome to see all the athletes come together under one roof. This was my my first time as an AGF program manager so having the support of the MAG coaches and judges was appreciated.
Robin - It was a lot of work but it was all worth it to see the joy in the faces of our athletes, their friends, and family. We saw some spectacular routines and we've very proud of each and every one of you! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped with set up, operations, and take down. Thank you spectators for coming down and cheering so loudly. Thank you to the Olympic Oval staff, Chef Rob and Red Seal Dining, Spieth Canada, and Gymnastics Canada for your hard work. Thank you to our judges, coaches, and staff for the long hours. Finally, thank you to our athletes for giving your all. We'll get to do it all over again next year!
Craig - It was such a fun weekend! I don't get to see our athletes up close very often so that was extra special. 🤸😊👏 And watching Roland trying to do the Griddy to Taylor Swift was the cherry on top. 🙈🕺🎸
Carolyn - Provincials was such a great weekend! It is always so nice to see so many athletes, coaches, and judges come together to create a successful event!
Keevin - This was the first big competition I’ve attended in close to a decade. It was great seeing some of the athletes I used to compete with along with so many new faces. My favourite part was seeing the next generation of our sport doing so well and doing it with so much passion and joy!
Jacqueline - I love Provincials because we get to put a face to the name that we communicate with via email or phone. We also get to see how much the parents and athletes enjoy being able to watch an event they don’t normally get a chance to see. Oh, and I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that took time out of their day or days to help. We're so, so thankful. Roland the Monkey - I had so much fun dancing and cheering and giving out high fives and hugs! I even got to sign a cast, which was super special. And, of course I ate a TON of bananas! 🐵🍌💃
