WAG athletes named to the 2024 Canadians Team WAG NewsThank you so much to St. Albert Gymnastics who hosted the Alberta Xcel and Compulsory Championships earlier this month! It was the first time both programs were combined into one event, and nearly 1,000 athletes from all across Alberta attended! We had participants from Xcel Bronze to Diamond and CCP Levels 1-5. High fives to all of the athletes, coaches, judges, and especially the volunteers who made this event a huge success! Please click here to view all results of this event! Did you order a souvenir Xcel, Compulsory, or Provincials bodysuit and have yet to receive it? Contact Carolyn, and she can look into it for you. We also had an incredible time last month at Westerns (click here for results) in Langley, BC where Team Alberta came away with 46 medals and a lot of stories and memories. No time to rest; now Team Alberta is working hard to prepare for Canadians which take place in less than 2 weeks. Be sure to tune in on HomeTeam to cheer along. We'll be posting the results on our website after the event. TG News
All of the sweat, preparation, and hard work over this season is coming to fruition! Our TG team is currently in the Queen's City (Regina, SK) for Western Canada Cup. Best of luck to them; watch our website and this space for results. ๐๐
๐คฉ You can also watch the event live on HomeTeam! Our National team has a very short turnaround as they'll be leaving a week later for Canadians in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. We're super excited for the 2024 Canadian Championships! For the first time in several years, all gymnastics disciplines will be competing together. We cannot wait to cheer on our MAG, WAG, and ACRO teams, and to have them come support us. Go Team Alberta Go! May has been a busy month for all of us. At AGF, we are confirming travel arrangements, registrations, and schedules. Our athletes are putting in extra training, our coaches are doing all they can to help them prepare, judges are taking time from their jobs to travel across the country, and parents are volunteering to help out our team. It truly takes a lot of time and dedication from hundreds of people to make these events successful. I know it can get stressful, so I want to thank everyone for everything they do for this sport and to wish the athletes good luck! We are so proud of you all!

The GFA program wants to thank Bobby Kriangkum for all of his hard work and support over the past five and half years! Bobby joined AGF in September 2018 as our Manager of GFA + Membership Engagement and he has contributed so much to promoting our sport and improving the experiences of participants, coaches, and administrators. He was also invaluable at competitions. Gymfest 2024 was Bobby's last event so we hope you all had a chance to give him a fist bump and wish him good luck on his new adventure. ๐๐ We will be looking for a new manager shortly. The job posting should be up soon, so check back to our classified section if you're interested!

June is Canadian Men's Health Month where the goal is to inspire Canadian men to live healthier lives by prioritizing their health and wellness. Many men do not do this which puts them at risk for common health conditions as they get older and go through lifestyle changes. Therefore, the hope for the month is to inspire men all across Canada to take an active role in their health through changes in their diet and exercise routines, by reducing consumption of alcohol, and by quitting smoking. Additionally, it is a time to focus on mental health and wellbeing by finding ways to reduce stress and anxiety while also working to manage depression or other mental health diseases and disorders through therapy or other means. Check out these Mental Wellness for Men resources! With community support, backed by the Canadian Men's Health Foundation, 75% of men improved their eating habits; 45% drank less alcohol; 70% increased their exercise, sports, or physical activity; 46% lost weight; and 35% reduced their stress level. Check out the study for more information!

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.

A Word from Finance and Membership ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ Things continue to buzz around the AGF Finance offices as the competitions and events come fast and furious!
After each event, I summarize the revenues and costs to see how AGF did and what can be improved upon in the future. It's awesome to report that we saw over 300 spectators join us for Acro Provincial Championships at Acrobatic Studio, over 725 people for Gymfest at Mount Royal University, and a whopping 3,000+ cheering fans at Artistic and TG Provincials at the Olympic Oval. Wow! Now let's see if we can beat those numbers next year ๐๐ Clubs and participants are also receiving their invoices for Artistic Westerns which occurred last month. The sheer workload I watch our Program Managers go through is incredible. Organizing travel, food, and accommodations, as well as outfitting an entire team of athletes and coaches, is no small feat. Kudos to them! I also know they do their very best to keep costs as low and as reasonable as possible. For me, I accomplished a goal in finalizing the costing reports within a month of Team Alberta's return from BC. I know it's no fun to receive an invoice several months after it happened, and I am committed to streamlining processes and getting that turnaround time down as far as it can go. To everyone who's finished competing this year, bravo! You've worked so hard and deserve some much needed rest. To everyone going to Canadians next month, good luck!!!! We're cheering you on. P.S. Go Oilers ๐

๐ฅ Getting to Know Your AGF Team! ๐ With springtime fully underway, what do you love most about this time of year? Is there anything you dislike?๐ผ๐๐ด๐โโ๏ธ๐ป
|
|
Jacinda - I love the ease of wearing dresses and not having to match an outfit. Dislike extreme heat. Anything over 23 degrees is too much for me. lol Keevin - One of my favourite things about Spring is the feeling of everything coming back to life. All the trees budding, flowers blooming, and birds chirping. I will admit I do miss seeing the Trilliums in Ontario. Alberta doesnโt have as many flowers as Ontario but I love seeing all the baby bunnies. The other thing I love most is biking. The biking trails here are spectacular! The only thing I wish is that Spring wasnโt so windyโฆ Haleigh - I love a good springtime rainstorm. ๐ฆ๏ธ Those days where you get to stay inside with the windows open, listening to the soft rhythm of the rain while reading a book or watching a movie are priceless! The chance to see a rainbow is an added bonus, too! ๐ Of course, the sunshine is great, too, and when the weather is nice, I like to sit on the back deck, grill out, or take my huskies for walks! ๐โ๐ฆบ๐ Mo - I love the springtime when all my plants seem to perk up and start growing more rapidly ๐ฑ I grow my own herbs and its so exciting when they peek out and lean toward the sun. It's also so nice to go out for a run and enjoy the lushness of the trees and all the pretty flowers that come with the season.
Robin - Love that the weather is warming up. I actually love the rain; how it makes everything so fresh and lush with all the blooming trees and flowers. The best part though, is being able to open my windows at home and have fresh air running through again. So nice! โ๐ท๐ณ
Craig - Yes the weather is nice and I get to take the bike out again....but truly the best part of Spring is that it's NBA playoff season!!! ๐๐๐ And then Stampeders football is just around the corner.
Carolyn - I love being able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather and fresh air. It is nice to see the flowers bloom and and the grass get greener. I love spending time outside with my boys biking and playing at the park. ๐ด๐ณ๐บ
Jacqueline - I love seeing everything getting green and showing signs of new life and getting to see my boys play the sport โพ they love. What I donโt like is freezing in the rain/snow while I support my boys love of sport outside. ๐ Roland the Monkey - I like to enjoy my hobbies, like DJ'ing! ๐ถ๐ง๐ค
