WAG athletes at the high-performance training camp hosted by Exelta Gymnastics this month. WAG NewsWe have had a very busy fall season full of camps! We hosted 7 training camps across the province, from Pine Valley in the North to Mountain Shadows in the South. These included Xcel, Compulsory, Levels 6-10, and High Performance. Plus, all the camps also included sessions for coaches, so there was something for everyone. Over 700 athletes and 100 coaches attended, and we want to give a big thank you to everyone who participated. In addition, we are also hosting Xcel, Compulsory, and Optional judging courses across the province to certify our judges for all levels of competition. Events are coming quickly in the new year so make sure to get in touch with Carolyn if you need more information. All invitationals and sanctioned events are listed on the AGF calendar. We are looking forward to another busy and successful competition season. ---------- PS: Great news! The latest editions of the WAG Technical Handbook and the WAG Judges Handbook will be posted on the AGF website at the beginning of December.

MAG Athletes at the high-level training camp hosted by Spruce Grove Aerials this month. MAG NewsThank you so much to Spruce Grove Aerials Gymnastics, and Coach Colin Plomp (our MAG Technical Chairperson) for planning and leading our latest training camp earlier this month! 24 athletes from the north and the south gathered together for a really successful camp. The group was thrilled to meet Thanh Tang from Bloom Therapy in Spruce Grove. Thanh is a graduate from the University of Alberta and a specialist in sports/activity physiotherapy. He loves the science of movement. Our athletes got the chance to participate in different physical testing activities which measured athletes' rebounding time and strength. They also worked on skill development and just enjoyed coming together to train. High fives to Thanh and to all the clubs that joined in participation! ------- Our Aspire team is really excited to make the trip to Ottawa in two weeks for the 1st Ontario Cup, running from December 13th to 15th. Let's wish them all Bon Voyage!

Sport Development NewsIn the sport dev world, we are happy to introduce the GFA Collective! It's a collaboration opportunity for coaches in leadership positions in the non-competitive community, across disciplines in Alberta. Our collective will meet monthly at noon on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the year, and at each meeting we will be discussing a topic relevant to the community. During the 45-minute online meeting, one or two colleagues will share their experiences with the subject, and then the floor will be opened to continue the discussion, and share ideas and/or experiences with their contemporaries. Regular attendance is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. If you need more information, contact our newest manager, Kate Webster, who is already bringing forth so many ideas to AGF. Otherwise - Sign up here! We are looking forward to all of the upcoming discussions and new perspectives.

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.
Contact us at info@abgym.ab.ca for more information.

A Word from Finance and Membership π΅π°π² We are in the era of sport data and analytics!
And I'm not just talking about finding out the best spot for Connor McDavid to shoot the puck, or how many minutes Lionel Messi should play each match, or even the best strategies for the Oakland A's playoff successes (or more recently, lack of success). A few weeks ago, I attended a luncheon hosted by Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Alberta, and one of the topics was membership analysis, where they presented the detailed demographics of accountants within our province. This got me thinking about our sport and how knowing our members and customers is getting increasingly important these days, for all organizations. For AGF, and similarly for a gymnastics club, collecting basic data about our athletes and programs allows us to explore our business' strengths, possible areas of weakness, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). This kind of review is very beneficial when it comes to decision-making. Decisions such as where to best allocate resources or what kind of additional programming can be offered. The brand new initiatives towards Special Olympics inclusion is a recent example that comes to mind. If we look at the completed 2023-2024 season, we will see that out of all AGF members: 73% identified as female, 26% identified as male, and 1% identified as non-binary or preferred not to answer. Also, almost 92% of our athletes were under the age of 13, and 3% were 18+. This is useful information! Given time, we could further break this down into represented and under-represented populations. In fact, two project-specific grants from the Government of Alberta have recently come across my desk: Detailed data about the demographics of members and potential members would go a long way toward a successful application for financing. We are approaching the winter break, and I know all of you are training hard but having fun. I hope you're staying warm out there! PS: Unfortunately the Canadian Union of Postal Workers' strike has entered its third week. We recognize that delivery of cheque payments to the AGF offices has been affected and assure all clubs that late penalties will not be applied. In the meantime, we are also very happy to accept e-transfers, direct deposits, and credit card payments (subject to a 2.5% convenience processing fee). Our office hopes both sides will be able to come to an agreement in the near future.

π₯ Getting to Know Your AGF Team! π What is an item you just can't leave the grocery store without? π«ππ
|
|
Jacqueline - Oh, it seems like I am always buying eggs and milk. My kids go through both soooo quickly, one with egg sandwiches and the other drinking milk like there's no other liquids to drink! π₯π₯π Keevin - There are so many, but if I have to choose 1 item, Iβd have to go with goldfish! Craig - For real I cannot leave the grocery store without checking the Hot Wheels toy section! ποΈπ€ͺ Carolyn - This is a hard one as we have so many staples in our house that we never leave the grocery store without. But my guilty pleasure that always ends up in my cart is Oreos! πͺπ Mo - My go-to item at the grocery store is cucumbers. Theyβre on sale often, and I go through them quickly, just not quickly enough to buy more than one pack at a time or else they go bad ππ₯ Haleigh - Every time I go to Costco, I have to check to see if they have Fairlife protein shakes. They're such a hot commodity that they only show up every couple of trips, so I make sure to grab a couple of cases when I see them! π€£π Also Alani energy drinks! π₯€ Kate - Definitely Milk. We are having tea, coffee, and cereal as a family and canβt go without our 2%. Chocolate and ice cream often make the cut as well as an occasional hot wheels car. π₯π Robin - Thatβs a tough one, but I would say mandarin oranges and something in the pasta aisle. Theyβre both my fav go-tos. I love grocery shopping so tend to walk all the aisles so you just never know what will end up in the cart!! Jacinda - I usually shop via app but I also have to have chocolate. Itβs a must! π«π Roland the Monkey - BANANAS! ππ
