Newsletter Moving to BiWeekly Distribution for the Summer As we wrap up the 2021-22 season and focus on planning and projects for the upcoming year, the GymBC Weekly will temporarily move to a biweekly format for the months of July and August. Distribution dates will be as follows: July 6, July 20, August 3, August 17 and August 31. We wish you all a fantastic summer!

2022-23 GymBC Events Calendar The Sanctioned Event Calendar for the 2022/2023 season has now been finalized. Thank you to all those that submitted requests for the upcoming event season. If your event does not appear on the calendar, we may not have received a sanctioned event request for your competition. Please contact events@gymbc.org as soon as possible to discuss options. All events will be published on the GymBC Event Calendar in the coming weeks. Should you wish to add information regarding your event, including informational bulletins or links to your website, please email events@gymbc.org.
Some events listed on the Sanctioned Event Calendar have been marked as 'TBC'. We are waiting on confirmations of event dates and/or event locations before finalizing these competitions. Once the information has been confirmed, we will update the GymBC Event Calendar.
We have also finalized our Equipment Rental Calendar for the 2022/2023 event season. All clubs that have approved rentals will be contacted directly to complete an Equipment Rental Agreement and submit a deposit for the rental. If your event does not appear on the Equipment Rental Calendar, we may not have received a request for your competition. Please contact events@gymbc.org as soon as possible to discuss options.

2022 Awards and Scholarship Nominations Mark your calendars - the 2022 GymBC Awards & Scholarship Night will be held in conjunction with our AGM. The event is scheduled to take place over the weekend of October 22-23. We are currently accepting nominations and applications for the following: 1) GymBC Awards: This is your opportunity to nominate a deserving individual, group or club in your community! Example nominations for GymBC Awards include GFA Awards (ex. Coaches of the Year and Volunteer of the Year), as well as Life Members and Members of Distinction. Nominations can be submitted by anyone in our GymBC community, whether it be an athlete, parent, coach or club administrator. 2) GymBC Scholarships: Calling all athletes aspiring to attend (or currently attending) a post-secondary institution! GymBC is pleased to offer financial assistance to a selected number of student athletes in our community each year. Please click on the link below for further information, including eligibility criteria and a list of required documents. Canadian Centre for Child Protection: Free Resources Did you know that the Canadian Centre for Child Protection offers free resources for educators (administrators, teachers, resource staff), child-serving organizations or law enforcement in Canada? These include online safety lessons, activity books for kids, and safety strategies posters. The latest addition is a storybook titled "Billy and Basmah Bring a Buddy Along", which young children learn about the buddy system, the concept that there is safety in numbers, whether offline or online. This might be of particular valuable for member clubs running summer camps or participate in events. To visit the resource page, click on the link below.

2022 Acro Canadian Championships Results Congratulations to our Team BC Acro athletes and coach Shawna DeLeske for successful performances at the 2022 Acro Canadian Championships! The event was held virtually over June 4-5, 2022. A special shoutout to the following groups from Kelowna Gymnastix: Level 8 - Junelle Sabang and Emily Johnston - Gold (14+ Women's Pair)
- Sarah Lawless and Maddi Dalkeith - Silver (14+ Women's Pair)
- Ellie Moffatt, Kristen Riopel and Ella Hatchard - Gold (14+ Women's Group)
Level 7 - Faith Conway and Samantha Walker - Silver (14+ Women's Pair)
- Avery Osachoff and Everett Brierley - Gold (8-13 Mixed Pair)

BC Athletes Rise to the Top in Portugal Senior and age group athletes are on their way home after a very successful weekend in Portugal. Competing in the Senior World Cup, Gavin Dodd (KGTC) pushed his opponents through preliminaries, semi finals and finals to finish in secure a Bronze Medal in Men’s DMT. Adin Brenner (VIP) finished in the top 10 on DMT at his second World Cup event. In her first senior international event, Kristina Dodd (KGTC) also rose to the challenge to finish in 5th place in the Women’s DMT category. A strong performance from Hannah Brown (SHA) also placed her in the top 12 among a very strong field. Samantha Smith (SHA) rounded out the senior event with a 5th place finish in individual trampoline and 4th place in the synchro category with partner Rachel Tam of Ontario. BC Age Group athletes - many who were representing Canada for the first time! - advanced to finals in many events. Kayla Howell (CA) lead the way with a Silver place finish in the 17+ DMT event. Along with teammates Cassidy Bodnar and Sydney Lovell Schmidt, the trio earned the Team Gold in the DMT event. Cassidy and Sydney made the individual DMT final, finishing 5th and 4th respectively. Sydney, along with Sienna Kuznak (Flip City) were both part of the trampoline team who won the Team Gold. Brooklyn Lee McMeeken came to this event fresh off a very successful competition season. Competing in the 13/14y category, Brooklyn was the Gold medalist in DMT and the Silver medalist in Tumbling. Owen Harbo (VIP), also representing Canada for the first time, was 5th in the 15/16y age group on DMT. Congratulations, everyone! Full Team BC results can be found HERE.

Congratulations, John Carroll and Kai Iwaasa! At the 2022 Canadian Championships, John Carroll was named Junior Coach of the Year and Kai Iwaasa was named Junior Athlete of the Year by Gymnastics Canada. Congratulations to both of the deserving recipients!

Xcel Program: Category Update for 2022-23 Season Following recommendations from the Xcel Ad Hoc Committee and a successful first in-person season, the Women's Technical Committee recently voted in favour of the implementation of Xcel Platinum! This will be in effect for the 2022-2023 season. Further detailed information regarding mobility, any modifications and more will be distributed at a later date. MAG and WAG Joint Artistry Camp A joint artistry camp for both MAG and WAG athletes will be held at Delta Gymnastics on Friday, July 8. Full information, including registration details, can be found in the document linked below. Registration Deadline: Thursday, June 30 at 4pm.

MAG Program Retreat & Assembly The MAG Program Retreat and Assembly will be held from August 12-14, 2022 in Whistler, BC. Accommodations are provided at the Whistler Athlete’s Centre.
