In Memory of Warren Conley
With extreme grief and sadness, Gymnastics Saskatchewan shares the news of the passing of Warren Conley, a long-time athlete, coach, board member, and friend to everyone in the Saskatchewan gymnastics community.
Warren has left an indelible mark on the gymnastics world, both in our province and far beyond. After graduating high school in 1982, he took part in a life-changing gymnastics exchange to Germany. Upon returning home, he realized that a “normal” job wouldn’t do - his life had to be dedicated to gymnastics and movement.
Warren began training under the renowned Keith Russell and, by 1989, had become the assistant coach for the University of Saskatchewan’s Huskies Gymnastics team. He later moved to Montreal, where he became a key figure in the early days of Cirque du Soleil. His artistic vision and athletic brilliance shaped many of the early productions, and in 1992 he began touring the world with Saltimbanco, one of Cirque’s most iconic shows. He continued choreographing and creating with Cirque du Soleil until 2018.
That same year, Warren returned to Regina to settle with his family, bringing his deep knowledge, passion, and warmth back to our local gymnastics community. He took on the role of MAG Head Coach at the Queen City Gymnastics Club and joined the Board of Directors at Gymnastics Saskatchewan.
Warren has inspired countless athletes, coaches, artists, and dreamers throughout his extraordinary career. His creativity, generosity, and quiet leadership have touched every corner of our sport.
We are holding Warren and his loved ones in our hearts during this difficult time.
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to sit down with Warren recently to reflect on his remarkable journey. It was a privilege to capture his story in his own words. You can watch the video highlight here.
