Volunteer for the

2025 Canadian Championships!

The 2025 GymCan Canadian Championships are just around the corner, and we need your help!

This year’s event will be a massive celebration of gymnastics, featuring Acrobatic Gymnastics (Acro), Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Trampoline Gymnastics (TG), and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)—all taking place under one roof at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Sunday May 25th - Friday May 30th.

And with such a big event we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to make it a success!

To volunteer you will be required to provide a police record check from within the last year. If you already have one we’ll provide instructions on how to submit it; and if you don’t have one yet, you can complete it here!

Stay tuned for our volunteer sign-up link which will be launched in early April. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved, support the athletes from all across the country, and be part of an incredible event.

We can’t wait to see you in May! 🇨🇦

Program Updates

WAG News

Have you checked out the AGF website calendar 🗓️ recently???

Every single weekend until June is pink which means that we are fully into the competitive WAG season, and we can't be more thrilled!

Canadian Championships are on our mind, especially since they will be held right here at home in Alberta, at the Olympic Oval, on May 24-30th. That makes our Trials to Canadians extra special!

Red Deer hosted our first WAG Trials on March 1st at the Exelta Cup. Over 50 athletes competed in the level 9 and 10 categories for a place on Team Alberta 🎉, and competition was fierce.

Tomorrow is our second Trials competition, at the Gymnastics on the Edge in Airdrie, and we expect it to be just as thrilling. Both our WAG Manager, Carolyn and our Sport Development Manager, Kate will be in attendance during the weekend so if you see them, say hi!

The third and final trial event will be at the Artistic Provincial Championships from April 10-13th in Fort McMurray. 🤸‍♀️ That will be everyone's last chance to make it to Canadians.

Do you plan on coming to Fort McMurray to cheer on your favourite WAG athletes? Get your tickets now! Click here for advance sales.

Lastly, next week West Wind Gymnastics in Lethbridge will be hosting over 800 athletes for the Alberta Xcel and Compulsory Championships from April 3rd-6th. 🙌

Our Xcel and Compulsory athletes have been waiting for their moment and it's finally arrived. Make sure to be loud and cheer them on!

Reminder: Judges are available to help with any questions coaches may have on routine composition. Please do not hesitate to contact our judges for upcoming mock meets or feedback on routines! 👏

Sport Development News

The Sport Development Committee is excited to announce Alberta’s first Parkour Cup (in Speed).

Airdrie Edge is hosting this inaugural competition on the weekend of April 26-27th. Alberta parkour athletes, look out for registration information coming soon! 👀

Alongside that is an Acrobatics filled weekend at the 100% Acro Competition being held at the Acrobatic Studio in Calgary. This is a great opportunity to see our Alberta athletes compete prior to Canadians coming up in May! 😄

Another thing to keep on the calendar is our GFA Getaway which is being held at Pine Valley from August 22-24th.

Featuring the experienced and enthusiastic Coach Tony, Getaway will be an intensive and inspiring weekend for both GFA coaches and GFA leadership. Registration information will come out in April and only 70 spots are available, so don’t miss out! 🏃‍♀️📲

Lastly we are so pleased to announce that Gymfest registration has closed and we have over 250 athletes registered to perform. Now those teams are working hard designing their costumes and perfecting their routines.

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.

SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.

This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.

Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!

Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.

A Word from Finance and Membership 💵💰💲

First of all, best of luck to all of our athletes and coaches competing at Provincials in Leduc and Fort McMurray over the next couple of weeks. You're going to do great!

The venues are incredible and I'm sure you will all have a wonderful time. The Wood Buffalo area is especially nice with a lot of great people; it may take a while to get there but you will be happy you made the trip.

We have a new Prime Minister and cabinet! I want to welcome MP Steven Guilbeault back to the renamed Ministry of Canadian Culture and Identity (previously Canadian Heritage) which now encompasses Sport Canada. He was previously the minister in 2019-2021 before moving to Environment.

This is an especially important era for Sport as more and more people are seeing its benefits for mental wellness, physical fitness, teambuilding, and social camaraderie. The Government of Canada's Future of Sport Commission recently completed it's cross-Canada consultation tour and is now compiling its report with recommendations for improving the sport system and making sport safer.

With regards to our sport, did you know that the ministry provides over 25% of Gymnastics Canada's total revenue through Sport Canada and Own the Podium? Their investment is subject to specific terms and conditions regarding its use and is audited to ensure it is being spent properly. Suffice to say, they ensure that those funds go directly to making our sport better and I'm sure we will all be at the forefront of reminding them!

In fact, Mr. Guilbeault's riding of Laurier--Sainte-Marie borders the clubs in Montréal where several of our national team members train. Also, he is definitely welcome to come to Calgary to see them compete compete first hand, alongside all of Canada's other top athletes, at the 2025 Canadian Championships in May 🍁🙌🤸‍♂️

That would be a great way to showcase both our federal (and provincial) government's return on investment in gymnastics.

Of course there is the federal election coming up (one month from today), and if there is a change in government the same invitation goes out to whomever becomes the new Minister. Come on over and bring all of your friends and family! 🤠👋

We know that sport unites, excites, and inspires. Nonetheless, improvements can always be made and that takes great leadership, as well as sustainable funding. As a sports federation our responsibility is to keep our members engaged and passionate, so that their efforts will be impossible to ignore.

Happy Spring, everyone! See you out there!

👥 Getting to Know Your AGF Team! 🙌

March - If you could travel anywhere in the world for free tomorrow, where would it be and why? 🌎

Robin -  This is a really hard one there are so many places I want to go. However, with a busy comp season, a break to Fiji for a nice relaxing trip would be what I would do tomorrow. Save the more adventurous trip for the next one! 🌺🏖️

Kate - I absolutely love to travel so this is the hardest question ever. But if it was tomorrow and all expenses paid, I would go to The Maldives! A close second would be taking the family on Safari in Africa. 🌍🦒

Jacqueline - I would love to go Fiji and Bora Bora! The islands look amazing and I have always wanted to go there. 🏝️☀️

Craig - I would immediately book a big trip to San Diego Comic-Con and get an epic cosplay going. 🖖🧙🛸🦸 It's been on my bucket list forever, and getting tickets is pretty much impossible these days!!

Carolyn - This is really hard as I want to travel to so many different places, but people who know me best won’t be surprised by my answer. I would like an all expenses paid trip to visit all the Disney parks that I have not been to yet (and add-in the ones I have been to as a bonus!) 🎡🎟️🐭

Jacinda - I think Australia would have to be my top pick at the moment! 🐨🦘

Mo - I would currently be on my way to Mo'orea Island 😉

Roland the Monkey - Banana Island!! 🍌🏝️
