If there is a financial dispute between a competitive athlete and their club, that club can prevent the athlete from transferring to a different club and participating in GymBC-sanctioned competitions or other events. If the athlete wishes to participate in a competition or event while a dispute is ongoing and they are unable to participate with their former club, they will be considered by GymBC to be an Independent Athlete; until the matter is resolved.
During this time, the athlete may train at any GymBC member club and they will be insured until the end of the current membership year. In order to compete in any sanctioned competition, the independent athlete must pay the host club's registration fee and an administration fee of $200 to GymBC prior to EACH competition.
Once the matter is resolved, GymBC has discretion to reimburse the admin paid fees on a case by case basis.
Once the transfer requirements are resolved, the athlete's former club must notify GymBC in writing in order for the athlete to be registered with a new club.
Please see the annual Registration Handbook for the entirety of the athlete transfer policy.
