The weekend following EVI, Gymnastics Canada and Gymnastics Ontario are hosting Elite Canada this year in Markham, Ontario! ๐Ÿ™Œ

AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.

SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.

This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.

Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!

Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.

Contact us at info@abgym.ab.ca for more information.

Another year has passedโ€ฆ
I reminisce upon this year as I have found much success and learned from many failures. By pursuing what needs work shows a mindset thatโ€™s open to growth. Believing that anything is possible creates various new opportunities. Setting massive goals, even if theyโ€™re not all reached, leads to immense progress and improvement. Run it 2025.

A Word from Finance and Membership ๐Ÿ’ต๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฒ

To say that North America is in total flux, both politically and economically would be an understatement.

Last fall, at the Town Hall before our Annual General Meeting, I spoke about the state of the economy in Alberta. Unfortunately, while some areas have improved slightly: interest rates, unemployment, and consumer spending, there are some deep concerns on the horizon.

You have likely heard about the possibility of massive tariffs being levied by the new administration in the United States. If put through as proposed, those levies on Canadian products could have a devastating effect on several Canadian businesses and their employees. Depending on the size and timing of the tariffs, we could find ourselves in an economic recession leading to another rise in the unemployment rate across the country.

Furthermore, if the Canadian government decides to retaliate with some tariffs of its own, we will see a rise in the costs of goods imported from the United States. We have already been experiencing a weakened Canadian dollar which has significantly increased the prices of travel and some products.

These effects will probably last for much of this new year; there is also uncertainty about a potential change in the federal government, and markets do not like uncertainty! All of this is foremost in my mind, and the minds of our club owners, as we start preparing budgets for the 2025-2026 gymnastics season.

I can promise that AGF will continue to balance quality membership services and gymnastics programming with competitive fees. An erratic economy may make things more difficult, but we will do our best to offer value for the dollars of our athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators.

That being said, I am constantly on the lookout for new fundraising and grant opportunities that are available to our members and came across the John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund, which is now accepting applications from Calgary-area athletes. This bursary is being offered by the MNP Community & Sport Centre and has a deadline of February 23rd. So good luck to all applicants!

What is your biggest personal goal this year?

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Mo - I wouldn't say I have a large overarching personal goal, rather that my goal is to become more present and intentional with my experiences in the moment. ๐Ÿค—

Haleigh - I am hoping to persevere through many challenges this year to come out as an even stronger person in the end. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Kate - Itโ€™s not glamorous, but Iโ€™m really working on developing routines to help with the rhythm of daily life. ๐Ÿ’ช

Carolyn - I don't have any major goals, but I just want to spend more time with family and friends as well as to try new things this year! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Jacinda - Iโ€™ve not been on a proper mountain peak since I moved here so thatโ€™s the goal this year! ๐Ÿ—ป๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

Jacqueline - Hoping to get some home renoโ€™s done! ๐Ÿ”จ๐Ÿ’ช

Craig - I always want to get through my big pile of books, but I am especially determined to get through reading The Silmarillion this year! โœจ๐Ÿงโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸงŸ๐Ÿ’Ž

Robin -  I would love to travel more and explore new locationsโ€”experiencing the adventure and excitement of discovering places I've never been before or maybe just sitting on a beach and relaxing! ๐Ÿ›ซ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Roland the Monkey - To eat more bananas than last year! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ™ˆ
