AGF x Cirque du Soleil 🎭

Earlier this month, more than 25 of our elite gymnasts, from all across Alberta, got to attend a special event hosted by Cirque du Soleil's ECHO! 🀩

Alongside AGF's own WAG Technical Director, Darren Webster (former Cirque head coach), they received a once-in-lifetime behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a performer with the troupe. This included interactions with the artists and insights on how their gymnastics skills can translate to circus excellence. πŸ™Œ

Please check out the Calgary Herald and CTV News Calgary for a deeper dive into the collaboration.

Thank you to Cirque du Soleil, Darren, and our wonderful athletes for participating in this unique opportunity! πŸŽ‰

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Congress and the AGM this month! πŸ‘ And a big thanks to our presenter, Martin Myers of Skyriders in Ontario.

We had such engaging discussions during our assembly meeting (it was the longest one of all the disciplines!) and are excited about the year ahead.

Congratulations to Trish Quinney & Eran Silberg on being acclaimed as TTTC Co-Chairs, and Jessica Walper for being acclaimed as Judging Chair. Their leadership and dedication to our sport are truly appreciated by our community. 🀩

Also, let's extend a warm welcome to Rebecca Will from Altadore, who was elected to the committee. This is going to be a fantastic year and we look forward to your insight and contributions to our group! πŸ™Œ

Canadians Recap

✨MAG News✨

Special guest coach, Nick Blanton from Fundy Gymnastics in New Brunswick, returned to Alberta earlier this month to lead our Canada Winter Games training camp at CGC.

The team worked across a variety of apparatuses in preparation for their upcoming CWG trials. They looked great! πŸ™Œ

Following that Nick presented three sessions at Congress, which saw an amazing turnout. Thanks, Nick! We'll be sure to have you back in the future.

If you didn't attend our MAG Technical Assembly meeting during AGM weekend, it was a fantastic discussion about upcoming events and policies. If you missed it, not to worry, the minutes will be shared shortly.

Moving forward, our MAG Program Manager, Mo, will be finalizing handbook changes set forth by the MTA, as well as preparing for upcoming training camps & screening events! πŸ‘

Finally, it was a honour to celebrate the incredible excellence within our community at the AGF Awards Gala. Once again, congratulations to our award recipients:

Rory Freeman (Athlete of the Year); Bin Fan (Coach of the Year); and Kelly Mock (Judge of the Year).

Well done!!! πŸŽ‰πŸ†

✨WAG News✨

The WAG program has had a busy start of the Fall season!

We've already hosted four training camps with two more this weekend. Turn out has been amazing, over 800 athletes have registered. There has been so much interest, additional groups had to be created and schedules needed to be updated on the fly! 😱

Thank you Exelta, Spruce Grove Aerials, Pine Valley, and Airdrie Edge for hosting.

And best wishes to everyone going to Pine Valley and Mountain Shadows for the Xcel camp.

Judging courses are also well underway. This season we're hosting 7 judging courses for our Xcel, Compulsory, and Optional level judges. Make sure to sign up quickly if you're interested. Click here for dates and locations. πŸ‘

Happy Halloween everyone!

Today also marks the end of our second registration period, which ran from September 1st through October 31st.

I know that a lot of clubs opened up their gyms during the last three weeks to accommodate all of the kids who had to stay home during the recent Alberta labour strife πŸ§‘β€πŸ«πŸ‘. So, that means there could be many new athletes, coaches, drop-ins, and other participants to upload.

No worries, there is no need to rush to get it done before trick-or-treating (or the Jays gameπŸ’™), the final deadline is November 14th, so there is plenty of time. If you need a refresher on the upload process, you can find it on our website.

Of course, I always welcome early submissions, too. And as always, I'm free to answer any questions at membership@abgym.ab.ca.

It was great to meet up with so many of our club personnel during Congress. Most of this job is done over the phone or email, so I really enjoyed all of the face-to-face contact. If you ever spot me walking around an event, or sitting in the stands, and you want to talk finance - come say hi! πŸ˜€

As I mentioned during our Town Hall, I'm continuing to monitor the economy and it's effects on our federation, particularly the tariff effect. The Canadian Federal budget also drops next Tuesday, and we will see if there is any additional funding for sport and athletes. Fingers crossed. 🀞

Be well, everyone. One more dub. πŸ’™ #WANTITALL

What is your go-to candy to offer

trick-or-treaters? 🍫🍬🍭

Craig - Do other people still hand out toothbrushes? πŸ˜‰πŸͺ₯J/k We give out Doritos mainly because I get to save all the Cool Ranch ones for myself. πŸ”»πŸ˜œ

Kate - We change it up this year. Last year was Tootsie Pops and Tootsie Rolls and this year it's Nerds. I keep all the candy corn for myself! 🍭

Jacinda - We give out Hawkins cheezies and chocolate bars. If you’ve never had Hawkins cheezies, I highly recommend! πŸ§€

Carolyn - The mix pack that has Twix and Mars in it! Those are my favorites to sneak out of the bowl. 🍫

Haleigh - Reese's Pumpkins all the way! πŸŽƒπŸ₯œ

Mo - I actually like giving out the Maynards mix box with Sour Patch Kids, Fuzzy Peaches, Swedish Berries, and Fish! 🍬

Robin - It depends on the year, but I love giving the little ghouls and goblins Miss Vickie’s chips or the mix chocolate box with Twix. Those are my favs and that way when its a slow trick or treating year I get yummy leftovers!! 🍫

Jacqueline - We sometimes go between Chip and Chocolates. Depending if there has been a fundraiser that we are supporting for the Halloween season. 🍫 πŸ₯”
