GymBC Staff Updates

Please join us in wishing Keara Urquhart and family a big congratulations, as they prepare to welcome their second baby in November! 

As a result of both Keara's upcoming maternity leave, and Emma Lim's return to post-secondary school at the end of the summer, GymBC will be seeking two new individuals to join our team. 

A job posting for the permanent, full-time position of an Administrative and Communications Coordinator has been posted on the GymBC website today. A second temporary posting for the Recreation Program contract will be distributed in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned for more information.

2022 Call for Gymnastics Canada Board of Director Nominations 

Gymnastics Canada is seeking nominations of individuals to stand for several Director-at-Large positions that will be elected at their 2022 AGM, and who will each serve for a four-year term (2022-2026).

Deadline Approaching: Canada Winter Games Leotard Design Contest! 

GymBC has launched a summer leotard design contest for our WAG team! The team will be traveling to the 2023 Canada Winter Games (CWG) in Prince Edward Island. 

The contest will be open until August 6, 2022. The top submissions will be revealed on our Instagram channel, and a winner picked by CWG hopefuls in September.

Vantage Point: Raising the Right Revenue Lab

Vantage Point is offering Raising the Right Revenue: A Fund Development Lab, starting on Oct 6, 2022. 

Raising the Right Revenue guides a cohort of organizational leaders through the different types of funding sources and steps required to secure those funds.

Applications Open for the Non-Profit Recovery and Resiliency Fund

Through a partnership between the Government of British Columbia, Vancouver Foundation, United Way BC, and New Relationship Trust, $34 million in multi-year, flexible grants are now available for B.C. charities and non-profit organizations disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

These grants will provide stable funding for non-profit organizations to strengthen their operational capacity to help with recovery and longer-term resiliency: 

  • $50,000 flexible grant for 3 years for non-profit organizations that provide community benefit and have operating budgets of less than $1 million
  • $72,000 flexible grant for 3 years for non-profit organizations that provide community benefit, have operating budgets of less than $1 million, and are in full partnership with, or led by, equity-denied communities that center the communities they represent.
  • Indigenous-led non-profit organizations with annual revenues of more than $1 million can apply through New Relationship Trust here.

Non-profit member clubs incorporated as a Society may be eligible for application. For full details and to apply, click HERE.

GymBC is seeking proposals from full member clubs interested in hosting the 2024 & 2025 WAG CCP Compulsory, and Artistic WAG Optional, MAG & Trampoline Gymnastics BC Championships. 

Please review both the Bid to Host Information Package and BC Championships Event Hosting Guide for more information on host club requirements and responsibilities for these events.

2022 TG Canadian Championships Results

Team BC was on fire the 2022 Trampoline Gymnastics (TG) Canadian Championships! The event was successfully hosted in Calgary from July 21-24 at the Genesis Centre.

For the first time in history, Team BC captured  a Triple Gold in Women’s Team Finals and set a record breaking score in Senior Men’s DMT! A special shoutout to the following athletes: 

Trampoline: Samantha Smith, Cassidy Bodnar, Hayden Good, Chelsea Groves 

Double Mini: Gabby Flynn, Brooklyn Lee McMeeken, Sydney Lovell Schmidt, Ruby Ryga

Tumbling: Taylor Pillinger, Brooklyn Lee McMeeken, Kayla Howell, Brooke Pelletier

Team BC athlete Gavin Dodd  won Gold at the 2022 TG Canadian Championships in Double Mini Trampoline. The KGTC athlete set a new Canadian difficulty record of 20.8. The previous record of 20.0 was held by Ontario athlete Denis Vachon.See the Record Setting passes on our Facebook or Instagram channels. 

Amongst these accomplishments were other outstanding individual podium finishes.  Congratulations to all!

GymCan has confirmed that a new Trampoline Gymnastics award has been created in honour and memory of BC Athlete Tamara O'Brien. 

The inaugural presentation of the 'Tamara O'Brien DMT/TUM Athlete of the Year' award will take place at the 2023 Canadian Championships.

USAG has published a significant update for the 2022-2026 Optional Code of Points, which can be found HERE. 

Please be aware that Canada has yet to decide whether to implement any L9 modifications.

Camp Registration

Reminder: Joint MAG/WAG Camp - Kelowna, BC

The BC Men’s and Women’s program are hosting a joint camp for our MAG and WAG athletes with a focus on tumbling and air awareness. We will be bringing in Denis Vachon as our tumbling clinician and Marty Myers as our trampoline clinician. Both have extensive knowledge and experience in their respective disciplines. The camp will be open to Canada Games eligible athletes, with priority given as outlined on the registration page.

The camp will be hosted by Okanagan Gymnastics Centre in Kelowna, BC. Information and registration are available HERE.

MAG Program Retreat & Assembly

The MAG Program Retreat and Assembly will be held from August 12-14, 2022 in Whistler, BC. 

Accommodations are provided at the Whistler Athlete’s Centre. Please register by clicking on the button below.

  • August 13 – Retreat

Upcoming Learning Facilitator (LF) Training

GymBC is happy to announce that we have scheduled LF Training from December 27 – 31 on Vancouver Island. 

We are offering LF Training for Competition Introduction (C1) MAG and WAG, and Competition Introduction Development (C2) MAG and WAG. 

Interested applicants are encouraged to be certified at one level higher than the level they intend to facilitate; however if you have extensive experience at the same level exceptions can be made on an individual basis.

NCCP Comp 2 (Intro Advanced) Coach Evaluator Virtual Training 

Gymnastics Canada is inviting applications for NCCP Competition 2 (Intro Advanced) Coach Evaluator Training (virtual). The course will take place on August 16, 2022.

The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is pleased to present the NCCP Competition Development modules in an on-line format allowing coaches to complete a number of modules as part of the enhanced International Coaching School. 

Coaches who complete all eight modules will receive the Sport Performance Coaching Certificate (SPCC). This offering includes the modules required for Competition Development (Comp 3) coach training.
