AGF and the Provincial and Territorial Gymnastics Sports organizations across Canada are pleased to announce the launch of SafeSport Gym Education.
SafeSport Gym Education is a collection of gymnastics organizations from across the country who worked hard to create documentary-style videos to share what safe sport means from real people, completely unscripted from real athletes, real coaches and real parents.
This is a collection of moments, feelings, and stories to educate us all.
Visit SafeSportGymEducation.org to view videos for all ages and for all people involved in our sport, in both official languages. You will also find Activity Books, Colouring Pages, and fact sheets about each video!
Feel free to browse and share and stay safe, because Safe Sport is Everyone's Responsibility.
Contact us at info@abgym.ab.ca for more information.

A Word from Finance and Membership π΅π°π² Fraud and gymnastics are two words one doesn't expect to hear together but nonetheless I have been noticing a huge increase of fraud attempts particularly online, over the past number of months. Sadly, this just seems to be the world in which we're now living.
At the AGF office we remain especially vigilant and aware of threats and criminal actions. This is especially crucial as we are safeguarding the personal data of nearly 50 thousand members! So we know the importance of keeping that information secure. The most common attacks we see are email attempts to install malware or trojan horses onto our servers, usually through spoofed emails purporting to be from staff members or known people in the community. In the finance department, I have also seen regular (and obvious) phishing attempts to gain access to our cash reserves or intercept payments or payroll funds. Some can be quite elaborate! Rest assured, your AGF team is trained to recognize these attempts at fraud. We double and triple check suspicious emails, we do not interact with requests to alter established payment terms, and we do not open unknown files. Furthermore, we have recently renewed our firewall protection and will be upgrading it in the near future. Our IT consultant also continually monitors our servers for viruses and threats. In Finance, I have been transitioning a lot of our cash inflows and outflows to electronic payments, to limit paper cheques going through the mail and limit the possibilities of theft. Much has already been done, but as I always say, there is much more that can be done. But as you gym owners know, it's important to balance the costs vs the benefits. So this is a reminder to be aware that fraud exists in all sectors, even the business of sport. Yet, if we keep our eyes open and mitigate these threats, those criminals will be left at the gate, empty-handed. ----------------------------------------------- Speaking of reminders, this is a note that today is the last day of Session 3 of our 2024-2025 season. Clubs, please make sure to submit all upgrades and other individual membership registrations by end of day March 7, 2025. This includes all new athletes and coaches, as well as Campers, Drop-Ins, field trippers, and all Birthday Party attendees. Failure to do so will result in late penalties. It is also extremely important to ensure that coaches and athletes are registered at the proper level. Provincials and Canadians are weeks away and athletes that are not properly registered will NOT be able to compete. Furthermore, anyone training without a valid membership is doing so without insurance which presents a liability risk. If you have any questions about your registration, please contact your Program Manager right away. I know some clubs have new staff that are unfamiliar with the registration process. If you have questions, or would like a refresher, please click here for instructions. Also, you can contact my office at membership@abgym.ab.ca and I'll be glad to help. It looks like the snow and ice may be gone for good, everyone. Until next time, be excellent to each other! ππ€

π₯ Getting to Know Your AGF Team! π Last week Team Canada won the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in men's hockey!! πππ What is the most exciting championship win you ever saw?ποΈππ₯
|
|
Robin - I was lucky enough to be at the 2010 Olympics to see Canadaβs hockey team win gold and Sid the Kidβs goal!! Iβve been to so many great championship games in football, hockey & lacrosse that itβs hard to pick just one. Sport is truly a great thing to be a part of! Kate - 2003 World Championships in Anaheim. I had saved up my summer camp coaching money to head over there during my university break. I got to see some of the gymnastics superstars and the scores were super close throughout the whole event, making it a really great and exciting experience! π€ΈββοΈπ Jacqueline - The Calgary Flames won the Stanley Cup in 1989 on my birthday! Craig - Jon Montgomery's come from behind Skeleton Gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics! ππ₯π· Then, right afterwards, everyone suddenly rushed into the streets and partied. π»π As a sports fanatic I've been to so many championships and world cups, but that one was super special! Carolyn - The 2024 Olympic Trials for USA Gymnastics last year in Minneapolis! It was super exciting to see all the gymnasts compete for their spot on the Olympic Team. Jacinda - I think that Canadian hockey win was probably tops for me! Connor McDavid, wowzers!!! Roland the Monkey - Did you know that the world record for eating the most bananas in one minute, is 8?!?!?! ππ€©π The best Championship is going to be when I break that record!
