GymBC AGM Info and Proposed Membership Fee Changes

An e-mail regarding the upcoming AGM and Proposed Membership Fee Changes (2023-26) was circulated to all main club in the previous weeks.

Director-At-Large Nominations

GymBC’s Board of Directors is recruiting for two volunteer Director-at-Large positions. We are looking for keen individuals to play a key role in shaping the future of GymBC and gymnastics in our province for years to come. 

As a member of the GymBC Board of Directors, you will contribute to the work of committees that support the operations of the association, and help establish policies that guide the safe and effective delivery of gymnastics programs in BC.

Gymnastics Public Survey

McLaren Global Sport Solutions are undertaking an independent review of gymnastics in Canada focused on safe sport and culture. We are sharing a link to an important survey on gymnastics that you are invited to complete to ensure that the gymnastics community in British Columbia is represented.

The survey itself will inform their work and your voice is important, so we encourage you to participate in the process.

Spectrum Gymnastics (Ontario) is planning an amazing rec weekend! The in-person conference is all about developing inclusion in gymnastics and will take place over three consecutive days in October.

Sponsorship and Fundraising for Sport Bootcamp 

The National Training Center will be hosting a one-day sponsorship and fundraising sport bootcamp to help develop and implement a strategic game plan that will deliver results. The bootcamp itself will take place on January 26, 2023. Please note that seating is limited.

2022 GymBC Awards and AGM Weekend

Deadlines for the GymBC AGM and Awards Night are fast approaching! Detailed information for both events are available on the respective event pages below. 

Oct. 22, 2022: Awards and Scholarship Night - only 47 tickets remaining! Ticket registration closes on Wednesday, October 12. 

Oct. 23, 2022: Annual General Meeting - Calling all GymBC clubs! Registration for the AGM is due by Monday, October 17. Please visit the event page and ensure that all of the required documents are completed. Clubs must complete a voting delegate form in advance of the meeting. 

Allocated Funding for the GymBC AGM

GymBC has allocated funds to assist club representatives from Zones 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8 who are wishing to attend our AGM in-person.  

Following the completion of the AGM on October 23, GymBC staff will distribute the funds based on those that have registered and attended the event in-person. Should you have any questions, please contact events@gymbc.org.

GymBC 2024 and 2025 Events: Deadline Extension & New Hosting Opportunities

GymBC is seeking hosts for the following events: 

  • NEW: 2024 Western Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships
  • Deadline Extended: 2024 and 2025 BC Optional WAG, MAG and TG Championships 
  • Deadline Extended: 2024 and 2025 Compulsory Championships (see note above) 
    • NEW: GymBC would like to provide Xcel athletes with the opportunity to compete at a GymBC organized event. For clubs wishing to host the 2024 and/or 2025 Compulsory Championships, we are offering the opportunity to add in an additional two days of competition to the weekend event! 

Should your club wish to submit a bid to host, please apply using one of the following forms: 

  • 2024 and 2025 BC Championships
  • 2024 Western Canadian Artistic Championships

Please contact events@gymbc.org should you have any questions regarding host requirements and responsibilities to host these events.

GymBC Gym Week Initiatives

1) Pizza Party Draw - GymBC is holding a parallel draw for Gym Week - all submissions that enter the GymCan contest throughout the event will be automatically entered to win one of three $125 gift cards to host a pizza party for the winning groups! Please ensure that we are tagged in your Instagram submissions to be eligible. There's still time to enter. 

2) Colouring and Drawing Contests - Our popular colouring/drawing contests are back! This year, two options (colouring or drawing) are available. Submissions can be sent in via the QR code on each template below, or by following this link.

  • Colouring Contest (suggested age range 0-6 years)
  • Drawing Contest (suggested age range 6+ years) 

Contest submissions are due by October 12, 2022.

MAG Trial #1

Registration for the first MAG trial for Canada Games is now open. Registration is now open! The event will be taking place at Langley Gymnastics Foundation

The dates for this event are as follows: 

  • 11 November 2022 — Canada Games Trial #1
  • 12 November 2022 — Canada Games Camp (everyone registered for the trial is invited to the camp)

Any athlete born 2004-2011 registered with Gymnastics BC wishing to be selected for the 2023 Canada Games.

Mersin FIG World Cup Challenge

Huge Congratulations to Crystal Gilhooly (WAG) and Thorstein Fischer (MAG) who have being assigned to judge at the Mersin FIG World Challenge Cup which will take place in Turkey Oct 7-9, 2022.

2022 GFA Program Assembly 

The GFA Program Assembly will take place virtually on Friday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. PST. 

All registered GymBC members in good standing are welcome to attend. Please ensure the following documents are completed (as appropriate): 

  • Registration Link
    • Registered attendees will receive an e-mail with the meeting agenda and other details closer to the date. 
  • Voting Delegate Form 
    • All attending clubs must indicate who the designated voting delegate from their organization will be. The form must be completed by the main club representative/chair/owner. Your designated representative must be confirmed by Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022. 
    • Each member club may name a maximum of one voting delegate. No votes by proxy are permitted.
  • 2022-23 GFA Committee Nomination Form 
    • Please find the GFA Committee (GFAC) terms of reference here. 
    • All member-at-large positions are up for election. The Chair position will not be up for re-election until 2023. 
    • Nominations will be accepted until end of day on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022. 

Szombathely ART World Challenge Cup Results

Huge Congratulations to Sydney Turner and Barb Fraser who were successful for Canada at the Szombathely ART World Challenge Cup in Hungary last weekend. 

Sydney took home 3 individual apparatus medals; silver on uneven bars, silver on balance beam and bronze on floor. 

Incredible Results! Go Sydney!

Aboriginal Coaching Module - Victoria 

Inspire Sports Victoria is  pleased to announce that an Aboriginal Coaching Module will be hosted at their facility on Sun, Oct 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This course is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous coaches, judges, administrators, board members, and all those who care about moving sport forwards in a good way. Thanks to our partners at ISPARC and Inspire Sports, this course is being offered FREE of charge with food and beverages provided throughout the day (including lunch). 

Please share the attached poster throughout your network and encourage interested individuals to register early as space is limited to 20 participants.

Upcoming Learning Facilitator (LF) Training

GymBC is happy to announce that we have scheduled LF Training from December 27 – 31 on Vancouver Island. 

We are offering LF Training for Competition Introduction (C1) MAG and WAG, and Competition Introduction Development (C2) MAG and WAG. 

Interested applicants are encouraged to be certified at one level higher than the level they intend to facilitate; however if you have extensive experience at the same level exceptions can be made on an individual basis.

Please note: This training will remain exclusively open to BC coaches until October 15, 2022, after which time it will be open for registration to LFs across Canada.
