PHAME hosts our online classes on Zoom, and we offer tech support for classes and most online events. Below you will find a brief guide to using Zoom for online classes. You will also find a list of which staff person is assigned as tech support for each online class.
Students will need the Zoom link or Meeting ID to access the Zoom. Zoom links for classes are emailed to registered students by the Teaching Artist or Campus Coordinator. Zoom links for events are shared in emails from PHAME office staff.
If you’re new to Zoom, the first step is to sign up for a free Zoom account at www.zoom.us. After that, you’re welcome to schedule a free 20-minute Zoom practice session with Alex. Email them at ageffel@phamepdx.org to find a time that works for both of you.
PHAME staff will email students the Zoom link for their class as well as the meeting ID and a dial-in number. Students will receive their Zoom links no later than the Sunday before the term begins, and then again every day that the class meets, before class begins.
On the day and time of the class, students have multiple options for joining the class:
On a computer:
On a tablet, iPad, or smart phone:
Audio only:
Students with vision impairments who only wish to access the audio on Zoom can dial in to the class by calling +1 253-215-8782 and entering the Meeting ID.
Each online class has a Campus Coordinator (“CC”) assigned to it who assists with class and can also help with tech support. These staff are available via email approximately ten minutes before class begins, and are also available during class. If you have already joined the Zoom, you may meet with them in a Zoom “breakout room.”
To reach the on-duty Campus Coordinator, call (503) 764-9718 ext. 22. Only available during school hours: Monday-Thursday, 10:30 AM-5:30 PM.
