GymBC Office Closure The federal government announced that September 19, 2022 will be a National Day of Mourning in Canada. This follows the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022 and coincides with the State Funeral being held in London. The GymBC physical office will be closed in observance of the event. However, as this is not an official stat holiday in BC, staff may be working remotely. Nathan Kindrachuk Departing GymBC Following two and a half successful years with Gymnastics BC, Nathan Kindrachuk is moving on from Gymnastics BC to pursue a new career opportunity. His last day will be on September 29. Nathan has strengthened our community on so many levels through his expert insight, compassion and unwavering dedication to support those he has connected and built trusted relationships since he started with GymBC in 2020. Additionally, his influence and energies have greatly and positively affected the SafeSport conversation beyond the province and across Canada. He has helped establish GymBC as a national leader in advancing this important mission. GymBC would like to assure our members that our commitment to good governance, safe sport and risk management role will continue. We will be posting for a new Safety Officer to continue positive growth and development in this area. Please join us in thanking Nathan for his good service and wishing him all the best in his new endeavour. Thank you, Nathan!

Coaches Week: Call for Media! Clubs, athletes, staff coaches and parents - we need your help! GymBC would like to put together a short reel at the conclusion to National Coaches Week. This will only be possible if we receive enough good quality media submissions of coaches in action across all disciplines. Help us make this happen by submitting media HERE, or by emailing content to: communications@gymbc.org. If choosing to email content, please clarify what discipline the individuals are involved in (if it's not clear).

Same Game Challenge: Apply Now Canadian Women & Sport is pleased to extend an invitation to sport and recreation organizations across Canada to apply for the Same Game Challenge thanks to funding support from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart). This project will support organizations to advance gender equity and improve opportunities for women and girls as participants and leaders in sport. Applications for this first cohort are open from Thursday, Sept. 1 to Sun, Oct. 2 at 8:59pm. Same Game Challenge will officially begin January 2023 and will run through until July 2023. National Coaches Week (Sept. 17-25) National Coaches Week is a time to celebrate the positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across Canada. This annual campaign is an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play, and to take time to say #ThanksCoach. All you need to know about National Coaches Week in BC can be found below: 1) CAC Contest and Participation Guide Visit the coach.ca National Coaches Week event page to download the Participation Guide, and learn how using the hashtag #thankscoach on social media could earn you a pair of $100 Petro-Canada gift cards! Specific eLearning modules are also available for free throughout the week - log into the Locker to find out what's available! 2) GymBC Coach Recognition Contest GymBC is excited to announce a special contest to celebrate the amazing coaches in our community! We are inviting athletes, participants and parents to recognize the marvelous coach(es) in your life by completing a short recognition form HERE. All submissions will be entered into a draw to win one of four gift cards. Those with a media attachment (ie. photo or video) will receive extra entries! To make entering the contest as easy as possible, member clubs will be emailed a copy of the featured poster with QR code link to put up in their facilities. BC Winter Games - Coach Mentorship Application BC Games is offering a coach development opportunity in alignment with the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games (in 2023). The BC Games Coach Mentorship program is an excellent opportunity to support a coach development initiative in your sport, to build coaching capacity through a BC Winter Games, and has the programming ability to customize it to your coaches’ needs. Program Guidelines and more information are available HERE. Interested individuals are invited to contact their respective technical coordinator as soon as possible, as the application deadline for PSOs to put names forward is Sept. 25, 2022. Any coaches from the 2022 intake of the Coach Mentorship program are welcome back for the 2023 version of this program with preferential selection. Aboriginal Coaching Module - Victoria Inspire Sports Victoria is pleased to announce that an Aboriginal Coaching Module will be hosted at their facility on Sun, Oct 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This course is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous coaches, judges, administrators, board members, and all those who care about moving sport forwards in a good way. Thanks to our partners at ISPARC and Inspire Sports, this course is being offered FREE of charge with food and beverages provided throughout the day (including lunch).

Upcoming Learning Facilitator (LF) Training GymBC is happy to announce that we have scheduled LF Training from December 27 – 31 on Vancouver Island. We are offering LF Training for Competition Introduction (C1) MAG and WAG, and Competition Introduction Development (C2) MAG and WAG. Interested applicants are encouraged to be certified at one level higher than the level they intend to facilitate; however if you have extensive experience at the same level exceptions can be made on an individual basis.
