Skill 1 : Dig

Keywords (repeat & clap): The dig, arms straight, fist, hug

Story: Use our elephant trunk to send the orange or other fruit (bouncy ball) back to our monkey friend in the tree

2-3YO: Children get the ball from the coaches and parents find a safe space to practice the dig. Parents place themselves on the side of their child, holding the ball at waist height of their child.

4-6YO: Place hula hoops in a semi-circle and coach facing them. Have children go in a hula hoop. Coaches will toss the ball to one child at a time who will dig the ball back to the coach. Ensure to keep the bag of balls next to you in case some children send the ball very far. Make two groups, two set ups and one group per coach.

Skill 2 : Set

Keywords (repeat & clap): The set, hands over head, bend elbows, push

Story: We need to protect our castle (hoop) from the fireballs (bouncy ball). To do that we will do a set (protect our face and our castle).

2-3YO: Children get the ball from the coaches; parents find a safe space to practice. Parents place the ball over child’s head to practice the pushing movement. If it is too easy, have parent toss the ball gently for the child to push.

4-6YO: Place hula hoops in a semi-circle and coach facing them. Have children go in a hula hoop. Coaches will toss the ball to one child at a time who will then set the ball back to the coach. Ensure to keep the bag of balls next to you in case some children send the ball very far. Make two groups, two set ups and one group per coach.

Skill 3 : Spike

Keywords (repeat & clap): The spike, hand near ear, smash

Story: We will make fresh orange juice (bouncy ball) for breakfast. To do that, we will do a spike.

2-3YO: Children get the ball from the coaches and parents find a safe space to practice the spike. Parents place themselves on the side of their child, holding the ball at waist height of their child. If it too easy, remind parents they can place the ball higher for the child to jump and smash

4-6YO: Place hula hoops in a semi-circle and coach facing them. Have children go in a hula hoop. Coaches will toss the ball to one child at a time who will then smash the ball back to the coach. Ensure to keep the bag of balls next to you in case some children send the ball very far. Make two groups, two set ups and one group per coach.

Optional Skill : Serve

Keywords (repeat & clap): The serve, hold, arm back, look, swing

Story: Coach has a delicious batch of cookies (bouncy ball) that we want to share with a friend.

4-6YO: Place dome cones face to face for children to work in pairs. One coach will place the children with a partner and the other coach will guide the pairs to the cones and provide them with an orange ball to practice serving. Swing gently.
