Skill 1 : Big Kick

Keywords (repeat & clap): Big Kick, three steps back, look, big kick

Story: We want to help our race car Lightning McQueen (ball) to win the race. To do that we will do a big kick.

2-3YO: Children will get the ball and the cone from the coaches; parents will space themselves out in the playing area with their child ensuring the child is not kicking towards another child.

4-6YO: Coaches place dome cones in a straight line distanced apart and have children kick on your signal facing the same direction. Once they kicked, have children go get their ball and place it back on their cone to do again.

**Do not switch side to demonstrate another time**

Skill 2 : Throw-In

Keywords (repeat & clap): Throw in, two hands, behind, throw

Story: We want to feed Alex the lion (hula hoop) oranges or any other fruit (bouncy ball). To do that we will do a throw-in.

2-3YO: Children will get the bouncy ball from the coaches and parents the hula hoop; parents will space themselves out in the playing area with their child. Parents will hold the hula hoop and the child will throw the ball. Remind parents to start close and then slowly back away.

4-6YO: Set up a medium cone (for children to line up behind with their ball), an orange cone for the child whose turn it will be to do their throw in, and three hoops near the cones. The coach will hold the hula hoop for the child to throw the ball in. Once the child has their turn, they will get their ball and jump in the hula hoops and behind their line. Make two groups, two set-ups and one group per coach. (Refer to the video for layout)

Progressions

  • Bring the hoop higher
  • move the hoop up and down
  • Move the hoop side to side
  • Hold 2 hoop parallel to each other (throw through 2 hoops)

**Do not switch sides to demonstrate another time**

*Only for 4-6 & 6-8 yrs old*

Skill 3 : Dribble & Protect

Keywords (repeat & clap): Dribble & protect, little taps, foot on top

Story: We want to be careful and protect our dragon egg (ball). When we dribble, we will do little taps because it is fragile and when we get in front of a volcano (dome cones and/or hula hoops), we want to protect our egg from falling in the lava by placing our foot on top.

4-6YO: Set up hula hoops and dome cones all over the playing area to create volcanos. Have children dribble around the playing area. You can modify it by telling them if a coach comes close, you need to protect your ball, or they can steal it.

**Do not switch side to demonstrate another time**
