Quiz forms and passing scores

A quiz form grades the answers a respondent gives. Mark the correct answer on each question, and Activity Messenger records a score with every response. You can also set a passing score: the form is then not accepted until the respondent reaches it.

Before you start

Quiz forms are switched on for your organization by Activity Messenger support. Without them, the Quiz form type and the Quiz question switch do not appear. Contact support to enable them.

Only radio buttons, dropdown menus and checkboxes can be graded. Other questions are not scored.

1. Create a quiz form

  1. Open Forms > Create, then Create from scratch.
  2. Choose Quiz form: “Online form with a respondent section and prebuilt quiz questions.”
  3. Enter a name and create the form.

The new form has a respondent question and three radio button questions that are already graded. Edit their labels, choices and correct answers, add more questions, or delete the ones you do not need.

2. Grade your questions

  1. On the Form tab, edit a Radio buttons, Dropdown or Checkboxes question.
  2. Switch on Quiz question.
  3. Choose the Correct answer. For checkboxes, tick every correct choice.
  4. Save the question.

For checkboxes, a response is correct only when the respondent ticks exactly the correct choices. Switch on One of the answers to accept a response that includes any one of them. A dropdown that takes its values from another form question cannot be graded.

A question without a correct answer is not counted.

3. Set a passing score

  1. Open the form's Options tab.
  2. Under Quiz options, enter a Passing score from 0 to 100.
  3. Save your changes.

The respondent cannot submit until the score is reached. Each wrong answer is marked Incorrect, and the message reads “Your quiz score is 67% (2/3). A minimum of 80% is required.” with the respondent's own numbers. The respondent corrects the answers and submits again. Leave Passing score empty for no minimum. Scores are still recorded.

Find the score

When a form has at least one graded question, Activity Messenger adds a Score question. It is visible only to administrators and is filled in automatically with a result such as 2/3 (67%). It is removed when no question is graded. Open the form's responses to see it, or export it.

To send the result in a message or confirmation email, insert the Quiz score merge field, written {Quiz score}.
