Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes

A wallet pass is a digital card that a client adds to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Activity Messenger offers three kinds: a membership card, a class attendance card and an event ticket. You design reusable templates once, then assign a template to each membership, class or event.

Before you start

No special activation is needed. You need access to organization settings to manage templates. A membership only offers wallet passes when Membership card is on. See Membership.

1. Create a template

Open Organization settings › Web & integrations › Wallet templates.
Open the Membership, Attendance or Ticket tab, then click Add template.
In Create wallet template, enter a Template name. The Type cannot be changed after you save.
Choose Background color, Foreground color and Label color.
Optionally enter a Display title and Display subtitle.
Under Logo image URL, keep Use organization logo on, or switch it off and use Choose from media.
Under Visible fields, tick the fields to show.
Click Save.

A new template has every field ticked. Ticket templates also have a Hero image URL. Membership templates have a Photo switch, up to three Custom field rows, and Field placement.

The Live preview updates as you work. Use the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet tabs on the page to compare them. Apple Wallet limits the fields on the front and puts the others on the back of the pass. Google Wallet shows extra fields in the pass details.

Fields by pass type

Membership: Owner name, Membership name, Federation member no., Expiration, Email, Parent name, Status, Add-ons.
Attendance: Owner name, Email, Parent name, Next event, Event date, Status.
Ticket: Owner name, Event title, Start, End, Venue, Address, Seat, Row, Status.

For a membership, Field placement picks the field in each slot on the front: Header / third row, Primary field, First row left, First row right, Second row left and Second row right. A Custom field has a label and a value. Use a merge field such as {First name} in the Placeholder box to fill it.

2. Assign the template

Membership: open E-Commerce › Memberships, open the membership, go to the Card tab, and choose a Wallet template.
Attendance card: open the class or event, stay on Information, click Advanced options, switch on Show attendance card (Google / Apple Wallet), then choose an Attendance wallet template.
Ticket: in the same Advanced options, choose a Ticket wallet template.

Each selector links back to Open wallet templates. Deleting a template does not remove passes already generated.

What clients do

Members download their card from their client account. By default they can also download it from their invoice. To remove the invoice button, switch on Prevent direct download of membership cards to Apple/Google Wallet on invoices in Organization settings › General › Advanced options. The card stays available in My account.

Common questions

Can I change a template's type? No. Create another template (step 1).

Does deleting a template remove passes? No. Passes already generated stay.

Why does the Card tab have no wallet template? Membership card is off for that membership.

Why is a field missing on the front of an Apple pass? Apple Wallet limits front fields. The extra fields appear on the back.
